wifi sucks

you're only saying that cuase you don't have it :p

I have it, and while its not total crap, it has its issues: Speed and security.

speed isn't an issue for me: i've tested my verizon dsl at 192 kb/s whether hard wired or surfing wirelessly (have a 802.11g router and pci card)

security i'm not worried about, have multiple firewalls, WEP and don't broadcast my SSID. plus i've got nothing to hide on my machine, if you can access it look through it, i really couldnt' care less!! oh, that is if you manage to get through the firewalls and norton internet security :)

now THATS my only concern. but i can run my laptop running wifi for 3.5 hours, which is more than my laundry will take, so no worries :)

What does anyone recommend for a fairly cheap/reasonably securable access point? Netgear? Linksys? MS? other?

I'm looking at moving to a new house and don't wanna wire it.

I had a linksys, and ended up taking it back. I replaced it with one from Microsoft.
The microsoft is much less complicated. It may be different if you have some kind of networking experience, but I had none. Both of these were early "g" versions, btw.

if you're building the new home, get it wired. If it's prebuilt, then just whatever wireless router comes as close to free as possible after rebate
