If tomorrow all the things were gone I?d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I?d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
?Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can?t take that away.

And I?m proud to be an American where at least I know I?m free.
And I won?t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I?d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
?Cause there ain?t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there?s pride in every American heart,
and it?s time to stand and say:

I?m proud to be an American where at least I know I?m free.
And I won?t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I?d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
?Cause there ain?t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.
Thank you Lee Greenwood.

Yea, it would be real touching if it wasn't a pandering pile of hypocrisy.

Why do people always point out the Texas Plains? That represents a small part of the panhandle area and is the most boring part of Texas. We have mountains, deserts, forests, hill country, swamps, sandy beaches and some of the greatest intercoastal wetland islands in the US.

Now, the South Texas Plains are a whole different animal. That area is rugged and sparse and alternates between deserts, hills, rivers and some desert scrub brush plains. But gooey song writers never mention the South Texas Plains.

You can tell when someone hasn't actually been here just by the dribble they carelessly add to their songs. And BTW Houstoners have no pride. They live there because they either work there, or they are financially stuck there, not because they love it there. That place has some of the worst humidity and air pollution of any city except maybe LA. I can't even stand to drive through it. You basically take a shower in your car when you do. And Enron was based there. What an embarrassment.

Fixed:
"across South Plains in Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Austin and New York to LA,"

If someone is going to pine about my state in a song, at least get it right, please. :p

That was our team song in college. We played that in the van before every match ...lol I had patriotic team players... except our record wasn't even .500.
