This is going to piss off the south.

Boo-fucking-hoo. They betrayed their country because they wanted to continue enslaving their fellow man. I don't care if it's a centry and a half later, they can suck it up and deal with some stamps.

Time to buy a couple sheets of Lincoln and Grant and start mailing some letters to my relatives in Georgia. :awe:

I actually think it is a little disrespectful since a lot of good men (millions) that did not necessarily believe in slavery were drafted into the war based on having the misfortune of being born in the south.

They were still Americans and served their country valiantly.

How about a little fact checking, before you post next time?

NOT millions. South used just over one million soldiers during the entire 4 year length of the war. North just over two million.

And I'm pretty sure the draft only extended into the Union states. The southern armies were pretty much all volunteer, since they were fighting for their state rights, NOT for slavery. Back then, people identified with their own state much more than they identified themselves as Americans.

Also, they did NOT serve their country valiantly, or they would have been fighting on the Union side. Their side broke away from their country, and tried to become something else. The did NOT identify as Americans, or Yankees, or anything remotely close to their country......they were Georgians, Alabamans, Texans, etc, fighting for the Confederate Army.

404 - valiance not found.

This is going to piss off the south.

Ft Sumter burning and scared yankee soldiers running over rich Washington pols and others that came out to Manassas to watch a battle at the first Battle of Manassas?

Fact checking on wikipedia

:awe:

Wikipedia deserves more respect than it gets. Unless it's a very obscure subject with a limited sources of information, opening up the reference and fact vetting process to the public is about the only way to assure information is as factual and as unbiased as possible.

If you would rather get your facts from a single source, then I hope you really trust that source. Personally, I think the consensus is often closer to the truth.
