Remember the old days of having to hunt for drivers on various manufacturers websites? What a PITA! I just upgraded a computer for a friend to Windows XP (was 98). The sound and modem both were missing drivers..so I fire up windows update, to download all the critical updates and such, then I was gonna get the modem and sound drivers (I don't know the model # of either, just try to guess based on the cards) and Windows finds em for me, and is now downloading them along with the 14 other updates (17 total, also downloading an updated driver for the NIC)!

Awesome :)

Thats all fine and good until it D/Ls the wrong driver and installs it, causing problems.

WinXP can configure probably 80% of the hardware currently out there. It's great. I agree. When i got my system running I just fired it up got into windows there were all the drivers. I updated my Graphics card drivers bceause the ones that came with xp had no OpenGL support, but other then that they seem to have done a fine job.

It's definately a big giant step forward for XP from Win 2000 Win ME and Win 98. Very easy to install. Too bad it's damn expensive.
I have to work lots of overtime for that.

It is only a couple dollars more than the previous versions and that was not that expensive.

The driver update thing is cool except it says my NIC has an update but when I dl it to update it says that it was not applied cuz it doesn't apply to my NIC (I'm using an Intel 10/100 full duplex NIC dont know the model)

Does your mobo have onboard LAN that you're not using? It might be seeing that.
