So I submitted a $30 rebate with onRebate couple months ago and got denied (saying no valid UPC). I e-mailed them back asking them to please check again because the UPC was there.. with no reply.

After a week I complained with the BBB.. and today, I got an e-mail from onRebate saying that the status of my rebate just changed:) They replied to the BBB saying in order to process the rebate they need a valid UPC but even though I didn't have it (yeah right) they will still process the rebate.

I'm 3 for 3 with three different BBB districts. These big companies would rather comply with a rebate, then tarnish their record.

Agreed. I've never tried to use them, but it's good to know I have somewhere to turn if I need help.

im 2 for 2 in getting netgear to send their rebates after BBB complaints. Now I have a form ready and prepared every time I submit a netgear rebate because I know it will be rejected.

BBB did absolutely nothing for me either, and this wasn't even a "large" company :(

The BBB is nothing more than a form of advertisement.
1) Companies pay BBB a bundle of money.
2) In return BBB allows companies to use the BBB logo on advertisements.
3) A significant number of people will select a BBB business over a non-BBB business when picking through the yellow pages.
4) The company promises to keep customer complaints to a minimum or the BBB yanks their ability to use that form of advertisement.

So the BBB has no power at all. If a company decides not to spend advertising money on the BBB anymore, then that company will ignore complaints to the BBB. And thus, you get no effect.

If a company values the BBB advertisement, then they will bend over and make you happy. But again, that is because the company chooses to please you, not because of any power the BBB has.

Which makes it pretty much like any other certification. For example, most companies don't really need to be ISO certified, but if they think it will help their business then they will spend the money on it.
