I love the Army but.....

You'd think I was about to go to Iraq. Nope, been there already, and would rather go back than do this. Got selected today by the Dept. of the Army to be a Recruiter (aka worst job ever). So I've busted my @ss in the field artillery for the last 5 1/2 yrs, a year in Iraq, and an impeccable service record, earning promtion to E-6 (SSG) in 4 1/2 yrs and this is what I get 🙁.

Right on! Another gunner in da house! Praetorian, does your regiment use Paladins, MLRS or towed guns?

I've been under the impression (from brothers in the army) that a recruiter is a great position. Better pay, low danger, no movement. Whats to complain about?

is there a lot of paperwork involved in that kind of thing?
are you the guy who has to go out and recruit or phone recruitment?
or have you been around long enough that you just tell other guys where to go?

Some people prefer more exciting times.

No promotion, possible demotion, disciplinary actions, for not meeting your recruiting quota even though it may be well out of your control.

MLRS.

The pay is a bit better, but the hours and the hassle of trying to sell something no one wants is what I don't care for.

But hopefully I can get LI , NY. At least then I would be back at home

i didn't know they make people be recruiters, i thought they preferred people that wanted to do that.

yep

OP hope all turns out well...at least it will be a good step in your career, and eerything happens for a reason...do not worry m8...I am sure everything will be great at the end

lol and being a recruiter means more time at the comp to be spent at the office whittling away the hours 😉

Thats what they prefer, but they would never get the numbers that way. So the Dept. of the Army selects people and the orders for this supercede everything else except special forces assignments.

that last bit sucks even more now, eh?

Here's how you do this and perform an additional social service.

BECOME A DESIGNATED DRIVER!!

On the way home, make a stop by the recruiting office. It's gotta have a 5% success rate at least which beats hassling kids at video game arcades and malls.

lol pure brilliance

That'll look great on your resume.

Candidate 1: "I can sell anything! I sold ice to eskimos."
Praetorian7: "I can sell anything BETTER! I sold a chance at death and a lousy paycheck to young men and women everywhere!"

Sorry, just trying to look on the bright side. I think the negative stigma that surrounds recruiters is only because of those few wackos who push a little too hard. Doesn't sound like you'll be one of them.
