i love playing my ps3 butttt....

i hate constantly having to install demos. downloading isn't enough, i need to suffer through drawn out installs that can take 20-30 minutes?

i dunno how things are for those in xbox land, but i really hope that for the next generation you download and run games...not sit there suffering though constant game 'installations'

Yea that sucks about PS3. When I had my Xbox, that was a much smoother experience but since I don't play games that much, I put up with it.

If you want, if you queue up downloads you want, you can go to the power down menu, check the finish all downloads box or something similar, and the PS3 will automatically download and install everything before shutting down.

dude if demos are taking 20-30 minutes to install to your hdd after you download, something is wrong with your hdd.

I can't recall the install part ever taking more than 1-2 minutes, not 20-30.

If you aren't wildly exaggerating for effect, perhaps your hard drive is dying.

With ps3, there are always new firmware updates to install. That's what I hated. I couldn't run a game until it was constantly updated.

New Firmware comes out like every other month or once a month so unless you aren't playing for months at a time that shouldn't be the case.

Are you guys sure that it shouldn't take more than 1-2 minutes? That would be acceptable, but not ideal.

My PS3 Slim has been like that since day 1 when I bought it (launch day ps3 slim). The bigger the demo is, the longer the install is. I'm also not kidding about 30 minute installs.

Actually the MAG Demo alone (~4.5 gig download I think?) took almost 45 minutes to install...

yea dude something is definitely fucked w/your ps3 if it is taking that long to install shit. the mk9 demo was like 600mb or so i think, took a minute or two to install.

The ridiculously slow installs and firmware updates are one of the reasons I barely touch my PS3 (the other being I prefer the 360's controller and XBL). Game patches and firmware updates on the 360 rarely take more than 30-60 seconds to download, and usually less than 10 seconds to install, whereas PS3 ones seem to take like 10-15 minutes to download, and then another 1-2 minutes to install.

And you don't have to install demos. Installing games to the HD from the DVD, however, takes like 10-15 minutes.

It wouldn't be an issue if it was quick updates, but they take forever.

I've found it's much, much quicker to download the update to my computer, put it on a FAT formatted memory stick, and install it locally. Takes about 1/10 of the normal download + install time that it normally takes.

I have no problems with install or download times on my slim PS3 250GB or my fat PS3 80GB (with BC). It doesn't make a difference in install time, but both are connected to the net via Ethernet. I've heard people say that updating when connected via WiFi is oddly slow. The PS3 updates are only ~300mb, so on a decent connection, it should be pretty fast. I can download from Sony's website at about 1.5MB/s (which may not be the same as their PS3 update server).

I'm curious if Sony would consider moving away from the full-format method of updating in the future like Microsoft did with the 360.
