They're paying me $15 an hour to sit in a cube all day and read the forums. :)

Gotta love working the helpdesk after upgrade the entire company to Windows 2000. We're lucky if we 15 calls a day now. Used to get closer to 125 when we had Win95/95/NT for the users.

It will be for another week until my position is finally retired. (I'm only a temp that was hired to handle the windows 2000 conversion, and I was supposed to be terminated in Dec, but I did such a good job, they asked if I wanted to stay on until the end.)

sad thing was, at my old job (pizza delivery) I would make about $20 an hour during the summer just crusing around town and listening to the radio all.....day....long :) And I didn't even have to drive my own car (boss provided the cars and fixed them out of his pocket, or claim my tips on my tax returns!!)

Sorry, gotta have a Bachelor's degree in CS (not Counter-strike), 6-8 of experience, and certifications that can cover the Great Wall of China from end to end (and printing it out on banner paper in 256 font doesn't count ;))

Roughly $14 an hour here to do the same thing.

However...

Yesterday IT nuked access to forums.anandtech.com. Last I checked they haven't gotten forums2 or forums3 yet, nor have they touched the precious subscriber forum.

That was close.

I'm lucky at my job: their trying to expanding their reliance on the net. And to help facilitate, they're upgrading the computer for some people from Dell GX1P's with a 400mhz PII to 1.6ghz P4 with a gig of ddr, 40gb drive, 16x burners, and an ATI Xpert 2000 Pro (ok, so the card ain't that great, but it can still play quake 3 w/o a problem :))

My job is to fix the stuff that breaks so I'm usually sitting reading the newspaper or magazines for about half the day all the while keeping one eye glued to the presses. When they do break, it's hot and dirty, and usually requires a good deal of thought and physical exertion to get them back up and running. Sometimes it can be a real sh!tstorm, but for $29/hr I can handle it.

Don't really have a job...but I love what I do to earn my money. I'm an ex-Army type who now gets to play a college boy ;)

Basically, I go to 3 hours of class a week, wake up 3 times a week to workout, and then drill one weekend a month w/the Army Reserve. There's no hourly wage but I get:

$300 a month stipend
$250 a month MGIB
$1000 out of state tuition
$208 a month Reserve pay (paid as an E5)

= approx. $11/hour :)

God bless the US Army ;)

I'm in the same situation. Get about $15 per hour, but I actually work about half the time I'm here. The other half, I spend surfing the net.

I don't like it very much, though. If this were a summer job, or a job I had while still in college, I'd be happy with it. But I'm supposed to be embarking on a "career" now. I'm bored out of my mind. I'd rather get paid less to actually do SOMETHING.

lucky you(s)..I'm getting a little over 20 per to support Win XP (yes, already) and we get hammered...daily. I still love it, by the time other companies go the XP route I'll be some kind of guru.

Viper, not sure if you want to brand yourself or not but you could probably get this opened back up. There is a lot of valuable information on AT for IT/helpdesk. You know, the other forums listed above & below Hot Deals & Off Topic?

I get to boss people around twice my age who do nothing but moan and complain about life and their current situation like children.

Its like working with a whole room of Red Dawns.
