So I own 2 mazda's, a 2011 Mazda Miata and a 2013 Mazda CX5. The CX5 is driven by my business partner but I own it. Its under my name.. (long story why that happened). This is outside of my 2009 Acura TSX

Anyway I took it for a 600-700 mile round trip to San Jose to drop my friends off. I swear this is the first time I drove the car long distance and I am in LOVE!

First off, its a 2013 CX5 Touring with the Navigation & Advanced package I guess. Its got Blindspot sensors, backup camera, adaptive headlamps, navigation etc etc.

On the ongoing drive (carrying 400+ lbs of crap in the car), I averaged 29.4 mpg. On the return I averaged 31.2mpg. The tank only holds like 12 gallons or so. It is incredibly economical. I was surprised that I got the mpg that I did, knowing I have a led foot and I drove the 320 miles to San Jose, CA in < 5 hours. (thats with stops).

The big pro's is that it rides like a car. great gas mileage, decent sound system, love the BLIS system, love the navigation has full voice control for inputting address & traffic built in. Love the space and versatility of the car. Comfortable front and back seats.

the big cons - slow acceleration on the 2.0 engine, engine not ready to rev easily, but its got torque for cruising not for getting on the freeway where you got to mash the pedal.

Its really funny that I've owned the car for 8 months and I've only driven it twice. Oh well... And yes, they fixed the 'hole' in the steering area, a panel was missing, the dealer fixed it.

I have been seriously eyeing the 2014 Touring with the 2.5L engine to replace my aging '01 Civic. I was interested at first in the Subaru XV, then the Ford Focus, but the CX-5 looks like one badass little SUV.

I'm considering the CX-5 or the Mazda6 as my next vehicle.. Will await the diesel versions (+awd in the CX-5).

OK, this is a bizarre coincidence. When I bought a brand new Mazda Tribute many years ago, it was also missing a panel in the steering column area. o_O

Anyway, thumbs up on the CX-5. If I were looking for a new car, it would be on the short list, with the 2.5.
