We just got our first of two Lowes last month. The downside is Home Depot is five minutes away while Lowes is at least twenty five or more depending on traffic conditions and the one under construction is even farther. I like having competition and more choices by having both around.

I must say HD often gets me pretty mad because nobody is around to help. Half the time I go there I don't know what the hell I am looking for and I have to go on an expedition throughout the store to find an employee. Yesterday was an exception and the guy in plumbing was very helpful.

exactly what I have to go through but Ill add one more thing. Everytime I walk into HD someone there thinks im trying to steal something...heaven forbid I bring a ceramic tile or something else into the store to help match colors!

crappy HD.

LMAO! I always feel that way when I bring my old parts places. At least I can show them the wear and tear if they said anything. I had to bring some stuff in yesterday as a matter of fact.

I shop at both, find the customer service at Lowes to be superior, but prices at HD just a tad lower or so similar as to not make a difference...

I'd rather shop at a lumbar yard, but they're a thing of the past🙁

I made the mistake of going to Home Depot yesterday - a Sunday the day after a day of torrential downpour. Ugh - two days of store traffic in one afternoon... 🙁

When Home Depot first came to my town they were incredible compared to the dominant local chain. In fact they were so good that they ended up driving Hechingers into bankruptcy. Funny thing is, now that Hechingers is gone they have taken on all the once hated aspects of Hechingers: surely clerks that are never around, always out of what you need when you go there, huge lines with 3 checkouts open. These are all the things they didn't do when they were just breaking into the market here. Sad thing is the local Lowes is no better.

I shop at Lowes so much my family refers to the local store as my office. Almost everything there is better than Home Depot.
However, Lowes is horrible at service after the sale. Try making a large purchase like windows, kitchen cabinets, etc and you can forget service if there is a problem. I have horror stories.

I'd like to hear some of those horror stories. I'm possibly going to be purchasing some new windows in the next year or so and was going to check prices at Lowes, Home Depot, and local manufacturers to find the best deal. Of course, they say it's not good to skimp on windows...so I may end up at least getting my picture window replaced with an expensive one.

My co-worker purchased fiberglass door with 2 sides.. IT cost $6000. Very nice door, good prices from Lowes.. Here is the bad part.. It took 6 months to have the door installed. First, then got the wrong part. They forgot to order the correct part...etc..etc..
Excuses after another...

But the final result, they were happy, because it's a nice door.. they also put in baldwin knobs..

look i work at home depot and i can tell u from experience that any of the lowes i have seen arnt even 1/8 as busy as home depot's get at the same time. that's why they are always so clean. more women go to lowes which is a statistical fact cus its much cleaner. look at the kind of people that go to home depot, seriously im not being racist cus im mexican too but we get all those contractors and they would hit something and brake it and just walk away, or they wistle at u like a dog as expect u to help them. most of the customers we get think they are king. while we are supposed to help them, they want us to do everything for them. and remember lowe's is commision on specialty departments while home depot is not. but if u want to get things cheap i will tell u to go to home depot cus people will steal parts or brake certain parts of something more so than lowes and u can lots more stuff for cheaper. but i will guarantee u, if ur a good looking girl, you will get the best service EVER from either store. we will load up pallets by hand for hot girls, i do it all the time

It's all regional. I'll take HD over Lowes anyday of the week. Just b/c idiots at Lowes mark down prices to your liking doesn't make HD crap. And if I worked retail too, I'd tell your ass our registers were closed to get you the fvck out of the store. I don't work for $8 an hour to satisfy you b/c you think you can waltz into the store late.

You went into the store after they were closed and were upset they wouldn't help you? Hmm. Who's fault is that?

I agree HD sucks but we only have one Lowes around here and it's not near my house. However we have Menards which is always cheaper than HD and they rock.

So are you saying that Home Depot and every other store in the country should change the closing time listed on the door from a specific time to "whenever".

What part of closing time do you not understand?

You can thank Bob Nardelli on that one.

His motto is: "To ensure more money for me, we will have less employees to pay"

Myself and one other part-timer work one of the busiest non-garden dept basically by ourselves. It is nothing to see an entire dept with absolutely no coverage, not because someone called in sick...just scheduled that way. Sometimes, I'm afraid to leave my dept because I know it could take me an hour or 2 to get back because I get latched on to by customers elsewhere.
