My speakers make a nice buzzing noise about 3 seconds before my phone is about to ring....

What is it about GSM phones that does this? Everyone i've ever had seels to cause feedback on other sources.

Yea well with vonage.. I lag out of my halo games a lil before and during a phone call becuase it eats the internet! :Q

You get the buzz when the phone is transmitting back to the cell site at full power to say yeah im here and ready for the call. It's RF energy it affects stuff like speakers that arent shielded all that well.

Bad handoff or a cell site problem (more than likely if your outside) see the cell site takes a number of readings from the phone itself like what the RX level is etc and also rx readings from the radio your on at the site... if it sees the level is to low and it sees this other site really good it thinks hey I?m going to move him over there (to a site that isnt all that great to far away etc). well in reality there is a false reading either from your phone (interference in buildings etc rf "echo") or the sites RX path is bad or the rcver in the TRX is bad (cell site radio) more than likely if your inside its caused by something in your house reflecting and causing the false readings or if your outside an actual cell site performance issue.

Mine always buzzed back when I was on TDMA as well. I notice it a lot less on GSM though.

GSM and TDMA are about the same thing... you get 8 calls from GSM radios vs 3 calls per radio on TDMA they both use the same underlying technology.
