It's about time someone big did this. Bush has been taking away our privacy little by little ever since the Patriot Act, I'm glad a company with a lot of influence behind it is finally standing up for our rights.

While I agree that it is nice that someone is bucking the administration, Google is a corporation, and thus is far more interested in its bottom line than in your privacy. At the *very least*, they did this to gain support from end users over rivals - though I personally suspect that they had stronger business reasons than that. Rather than being thrilled that Google has not shared its data with the administration, I would think that you should be concerned that Google is collecting the data in the first place. Why do you trust Google with it if you don't trust Bush with it?(and repost 😉)

My short answer to the bolded question would be that google isn't gonna use that information and come knocking at my door and arrest me for no apparent reason.

If google wants to collect information on searches, more power to them. It only makes their results better. Heck, in my gmail, I actually get relavant ads relating to hardware, and I recently found a nice price on an HD through one of those gmail ads.

Don't complain that Bush is taking away your privacy if you don't mind your information being collected in the first place.

I can see why Bush doesn't think this is overreaching. Considering that there are so many Internets and all.
