I love front wheel drive and traction control

14 inches of snow in the last couple days.

I sure don't miss that rear wheel drive car I had years ago when the weather gets like this.

14" of snow fallen? Yes.

You tackling 14" of snow in a FWD vehicle? Not a chance in hell..

In the end you're still traveling over the same snowy roads that have been cleared. After about 5" the roads are all the same up to a certain point, and at that point you couldn't drive on them in any non-4x4 truck anyways.

I almost never use 4x4. A truck with a full locker in the rear, not limited slip works better to me than any factory 4x4 out there.

Even with all the snow we got yesturday i never put it in 4x4 except to help a semi straighten back out. When I put it in 4x4 though I can pretty much only go straight or slight turns.

For the record I hate FWD in the winter, they blow. You give gas to go or turn a corner and they just push. Give gas in a RWD you turn the corner. Or you start sliding around a corner in RWD bump the gas sling the back end around and you make a turn just fine.

I wish more people had to drive RWD in the winter, I bet they would learn to slow down on the highways.

Yeah, at that point ground clearance is whats going to be the difference between being a plow and a car 🙂

edit: and for the record my 240 is a plow even in light snow, but still a hell of a lot of fun 🙂

Or in a 4x4 truck, unless that 4x4 is jacked way up in the air. It's just as easy to get 4 wheels spinning than 2 when your car or truck is beached up onto a drift or in a ditch.

I see probably more 4x4's in ditches than anything because the drivers think they're in "God Mode." Then again, they're typically "luxury" SUV's or something. Morons give (real) 4-wheeling a bad name.

But yeah... you're not actually DRIVING ON 14" of snow. 99% of the cars on the road are going to bottom out in that.

I do like traction control though. My VeraCruz has ESC and it's cool to have the left and right wheels alternate like the car is literally "walking" through the snow. I just wish you could LOCK the diff. Yeah, you can turn off the ESC, but that doesn't lock the diff. If I'm up sideways on a bank of snow, I don't need my diff telling me which wheel needs to turn thank you.

I still carry a tow rope and a small shovel with me though. 😉

I have RWD, no limited slip, don't see what everyone gripes about. Really isn't any worse than my old FWD car, just a different feel. Just gotta have tires meant for the weather, you summer street tires won't cut it! 😉

My old 85 Plymouth Reliant SE eventually turned to crap, but it was great in the snow. Never drove in 14" worth, but 5 or 6 was a walk in the park. Even slippery compact snow didn't phase it a bit, as soon as some slippage occurred a little correction and throttle got it right back on track.

Amen to that. Its FWD or bust in northern US.

I would take a BMW F1 race car in non warmed up slicks tackling 500" of snow any day anytime on anyplanet / subplanet in the universe.
