Got flyer in the mail about upgrading my 384k ($29.99/mo) to 3Mbps ($39.99). Figured 10 bucks is a good deal for 10x faster connection speed, so I called them up...they gave me the 3Mbps for $37.99 and Starz/Encore package (something like 10 channels) for free! Woot!

I love Charter Cable...3Mbps, HD cable, HD DVR... :D

You realize this promo was around since April? I finally got the silly postcard flyer in the mail today about 3Mbps.

My sister absolutely hates Charter...they absolutely never came out during the service window they promised, and she had to take three FULL days off work to get her cable connected. This was in Kalamazoo, MI.

I know, but at $39.99. Why they gave it to me for 2 bucks less, I have no idea, plus them giving me more movie channels for free, well...it was more than I expected from them.

EDIT: I'm in Pasadena, CA. I can't really attest to the quality of service around the country, but I haven't had any problems with Charter here in the year and a half I've been using their services.

charter has been good to me too.
but your previous rate is quite ridiculous, 384 kbps? that's really slow for $29.99

Yeah, I know, but Charter only has two tiers...384k and 3M...
I was getting 3M for free until April this year, then I got downgraded after the promo period ended. Tried to do 384k for the past couple of months, but it got annoying...

Well they did unlock the pipes a year ago or so. When I first got Charter it was 1.5mbps/256kbps, but then it was way slower, like 256kbps/128kbps cause they came out with different rates and we got the cheapest one for $30/month. But then they unlocked it for everyone so still paying $30/month for better speeds. Never heard about this 3mbps deal though!

I'm glad that you have good service with them. I don't though. If I could use a different cable company for my service I would. I really dislike Charter Cable.

Have you considered a dish? When I moved into my current place I was trying to decide between DirecTV or Charter...only reason I chose Charter was because with DirecTV I would have had to do SBC DSL, which would have required a land line, which I am without (cell phone > land line).

I thought the rates were locked too but not so apparently. Went from 2 meg for $34 to 3 meg for $37.

Before the speed was around 1.5 now getting 2.5.

Not bad.
