I'm on comcast. Optimum online is available in the neighborhood next to me but not here. so.

complain all you want, if you really don't like it leave.

the problem isn't comcast, the problem is Verizon. if Verizon offered a competitive DSL, then MB comcast would get their act together.

BUT on the other hand, if you ask me, they did a pretty good job of switching over from @ home to their own service.

I don't think so at all. When I was on @Home I got GREAT speeds, downloaded at over 650Kb/s at times and uploaded at over 150Kb/s at other times. I was very pleased with that service, then Comcast took over...crappy speeds, downtime like no other and tech sucks. Maybe you have a better experience with them, but mine sucked.

call them up and tell them about it. i did, they flashed my modem, and i stopped having annoying 30 second outages (that booted me out of whatever game i was playing).

I dread the thought of having to go back to dial-up.

DSL since 05/01:D (768/128, actually 720/135)

And the thing that REALLY bites as well is the fact that 15k is the limit when sending multiple streams! I'm happy with the download speed but the upload speeds offered are CRAP.

Uh... first of all, you don't seem to understand what a "cap" is. 128kbps = 16KBps. Learn the difference. AT&T doesn't limit certain applications with certain speeds. When they tell you that you can only upload at 16K, they're telling you what you're buying. No one ever told you that each application or that each stream is going to upload at a cap of 128kbps. Anyone who does is an idiot. The maximum throughput via your modem will either be 128kbps (16KBps) or 256kbps (32KBps) depending on your area (mine's all of 256kbps). That includes everything that you do on your system. You can have 1 upload going at 256kbps or 256 uploads going all at 1kbps.

Get it?

Comcast has the same caps as AT&T in some places:

1.5mbps down
128kbps up

Stop complaining or get a new ISP. Don't have any other broadband options in your area? Then go back to dialup. What? Oh, you don't like dialup either? Then move to another area where you have another choice. Oh, moving isn't an option?? Well, then, shut up and enjoy what broadband you have.

Out of curiosity, why do ISP's cap your upload speed so low compared to your download speeds? I mean, only a few power users would actually max out their upload speeds. Just curious.

Because they figure that their customers, since they've only subscribed to a "entertainment purposes only" service, are going to stick to browsing instead of running servers. You really don't need all that high of an upload if you're not running a server. Besides... ISP's have to pay for their bandwidth too. The more they cap the upload, the more bandwidth they'll have to spread out over download (read: more customers) paying the same price.

Upload speed serves its main purpose through web-hosting or ftp/database/fileserver access.....because upload speeds are more necessary to supply a large amount of clients, companies see its inherent value and jack-up prices....

Content viewing: general public gets to see what companeis make..

Content authoring: YOu pay a price for distributing flyers, not viewing them....same with the net

I finally got on the broadband wagon last week at home and it is great, I thought we were fast at work on a 1Ghz pipleline. my cable modem is consistently running at around 2 megabits and it smokes my connection at work.

I Know this, my point was that my cable connection at home is running at around 2000k and my connection at work although it is T1 running through a 1 GHz backbone isn't nearly as fast for example right now I am getting around 1100k on it.
