I'm planning to get a new harddrive and I was looking for all my CDs to make sure I had them. I put all my HL2 cds in a cd wallet and I can't find the sleeves where the Key was written on.
So I'm wondering if there is anyway if I could get the HL2 cdkey from my installation. I searched my registry but couldn't find anything.

I don't think you need your CD key any longer if you've activated it with Steam already... because it'll be bound with your Steam account.

huh?

Good god man... have you even played the game? Everybody knows the steam client is mandatory for HL2. It makes it so you don't need the discs. Granted, if something happens (they lose your account info down the road) you'd need the cdkey again. As for now, you don't need it.

Geez man... how the hell am I supposed to know all that? I only installed it once and I remember entering the cdkey... every single other game that I've installed requires a cd-key every time I install it. Last time I checked, you don't need to know how the Steam client works to play the frickin game.

Thanks but Looney was gracious enough to help me with my problem without rubbing it in my face like a couple of other people.
