:Q Can anyone tell me why my 13 gig HD that came eith my machine only has 9.2 gigs free, right out of the box? I know the OS and other junky programs bundled on it don't use that much space. Cheers!!!

Try formatting the HDD.. and then check. If it's straight out of the box.. maybe the HDD is stuffed..

There is a limitation on some operating systems at 9+gig, I think if you are running Win98se it should see all of it with the latest bios for your motherboard. Give us some specs.

could it be with your FAT partitioning? Are you running FAT16 or FAT32? I believe FAT32 saves you more disk space by having smaller clusters. correct me if I'm wrong.....

You could have a look it FDISK to see whether the primary partition is using 100% of its space

Impalaman96, some mfgrs like Dell will put a hidden partition on the drive with a backup image for system restoration. That may be where the space has gone.
