I lost 10 pounds in 4 hours

Last night I got hit by the most sudden, severe stomach bug I've ever had in the 30 years of my life. After four hours of losing fluids in violent and explosive ways I was down almost 10 pounds in body weight. Shivering in huddled mess with a major temperature and wishing for death.

After a miserable night of tossing and turning in my sleep wondering what sort of pyrotechnic show my gut was going to throw at me next...I sit here trying to get some sort of food and fluids back in.

I don't think it was food poisoning. I think it's something my daughter brought home from daycare. She's had similar problems the last couple days.

i had something like this happen to me once. i even got in a tub with the water as hot as i could stand it and still couldn't get warm and i was throwing up every 20 minutes. 4-5 hours later i felt fine again. weirdest damn thing ever. i thought it was from an apple i ate but i dunno.

Sorry to hear that, buddy. Sounds like you got a nice case of Gastroenteritis.

I've had it twice in my life and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Not even my son's mother...wishing something that bad on someone is serious self-Karma-suicide.

I've literally been sitting on the toilet, too weak to move, with the garbage pail in my hands throwing up into it whilst it comes out of the other end simultaneously.

TMI, I know...but it's one of the few times in my life I've actually wished for immediate and quick death.

I had it for THREE days and lost almost 12 pounds...I looked great though. When I was well enough to be away from the toilet for a few minutes I went to the ER. They gave me THREE IV bags and still didn't urinate for almost 24 hours later. Talk about dehydrated.

You gotta wash your hands!!! Norovirus essentially comes from your poop. Its the same virus responsible for food poisoning.

Drink plenty of fluids and it will be out of your system in no time.

I lost twenty-five in a forty-eight hour period a couple of years ago. Not a pleasant experience, though the fever dreams were somewhat entertaining.

Be careful that you don't get dehydrated and need to make a visit to the E.R. for fluids. That happened to my brother, mother and sister when they got a particularly violent strain of the pukes/poops last winter.

I've had both the rotovirus and norovirus. I forget which, but one happened when I was a baby and nearly died. The other one happened last year and I wanted to die..I didn't get to leave the bathroom for 48 hours, and I probably only got 2 hours of sleep in that time.

my kids were young and spent a whole day throwing up....i had it the day after. i couldnt eat or drink anything, except room-temp water, without throwing it up *immediately*

Drink lots of fluids (water, things with electrolytes, etc) and rest. Feel better.

Wow. I've only lost about 5/6 pounds in a matter of hours before by rising early, physical work for 2 hours, then forgoing lunch to spend 2 hours at a mall, then walking 2 miles home. Ten pounds, now that s beaucoup waste.

Found out today that of the 12 or so kids in the infant room at my day care, only my wife and one other set of parents have been safe. Every other parent has been plastered to the toilet this weekend.

The kids get a rotovirus vaccine a couple times the first year to protect them. They can still get minor symptoms and be carriers. Us parents just get slaughtered by it.

vi - I had that same thing Christmas morning of last year. It sucked. You'll get over it in a few days though, but until then, hang tough buddy.

Had that this last winter. Same, lost about 10-or-so lbs.....gained it all back though when things came back to normal and I rehydrated.
