I live in Fausto's dream city.

When they say that Davis is Bicycle City or whatever, they're not kidding. This morning I was driving from my new place in Davis to work in Sacramento, and I stopped to get gas.

I drove a total of about 1.5 miles in Davis before getting on the freeway, and stopped to get gas for about 5 minutes, and saw about 25 bicycles. There were no conflicts between bicylists and motorists, there's bike lanes along pretty much every road. It's Fausto's paradise.

Like I've always said; extensive bike lanes = greatly reduced bike/car conflicts.

Sounds nice. Seattle isn't bad (tons of bikers), but there's still conflicts in some areas; additionally, cars still don't really look for you when turning left, or occasionally will do something stupid like passing you, then making a slow right turn through your lane. Those moments suck. :|

Hehe....you should try biking here. Atlanta is consistently voted worst city for cycling every year. Narrow roads, very few bike lanes, asshole motorists.....we're the Anti-Davis.

Same as the rest of Northern California. Highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s. Rains sometimes. Doesn't snow.

I agree. I live in a major college town and without bike lanes it would be a mess.

Come to Santa Barbara. We have very extensive bike lanes (even ones that are off the main streets, specifically for bikes). My alma matter (UCSB) has something like 10,000 bikes that pass through daily.

P.S. Trying to find the exact number as I realize 10k is hard to believe.

Edit: This article says 14,000 bike users!!!

davis has the most bikes per population density in america I believe. The city logo is a freakin' bike.

Peds: no. We hardly even have any sidewalks. There are actually grooves worn in the ground on either side of the road in some areas from people walking there.

Drivers, on the other hand, make their own graves (literally, in some cases). Not only are many of them rude, inconsiderate ASSHOLES, they also speed everywhere, run lights, yap on phones, apply makeup, eat, read, beat off, etc while driving. I read in the AJC today that there are three traffic fatalities in ATL for every one homicide each year. Brilliant.
