I like these 'reality' shows that basically just show people doing their jobs

Examples:
-Deadliest Catch
-Pawn Stars
-Dirty Jobs
-Ace of Cakes

I really enjoy these shows. I'm not sure why... the people involved are all pretty entertaining, and it's usually not a stupid contest or acting or anything. It's just simple, filming interesting people with interesting professions. Anyone else with me? Any other shows like this I may be missing? I just found out about Pawn Stars on here recently and I dig it.

Pawn Stars is interesting, all kinds of cool shit is brought in there

Also, Mike Rowe is an interesting person, so I like his show too

I like the OP's taste in television entertainment and don't think that he's retarded...

BULLSHIT! Nobody ever agrees with anybody else's choice of entertainment here... and everybody thinks I'm at least a bit retarded

What's your angle? :hmm:

i havent seen it (what with not liking it and all). how did he die?

i wasnt referring to one episode, just the formulaic nature of it. the same can be said of almost every reality show, i guess the way they do it specifically rubs me the wrong way.

I was just busting your chops. I know what you mean, and yes... as of late they were getting pretty bad about starting fake drama. But one of the captains did indeed die of a stroke a little while ago which is the season currently airing.

On a serious note, I'm not a big fan myself, they all get boring really quickly to me.

Deadliest Catch was boring to me about 10 minutes into watching a single episode. I have no idea how they stretched it into several seasons.

Pawn Stars, I saw some episode where they made a bet, one guy would have to buy a suit if he won, and the other guy would have to buy some expensive (Ed Hardy?) jeans. Its not a show I'd willingly watch regularly.

Dirty Jobs, its ok, but again, gets boring. I also don't like Mike Rowe much, he tries to be funny but its mostly lame joking. The people he talks to are often much more entertaining than he is.

AxMen was awful I thought.

Ice Road Truckers was interesting but they stretched the content way too much, it should have been about half as long as it was.

It's not guys just doing their jobs, it's doing their jobs while reading lines written by writers.

*shrugs* Some are worse than others. Deadliest Catch has gotten pretty bad about it, which is the main reason I want to find something else that hasn't been tainted by success yet. They always start out good and then get worse as they get popular and producers force more drama.

Definitely. First season or 2 is ok, as it's just guys doing their shit. Then it turns all drama and for women once it turns to doing the same thing over and over. Most jobs are the same boring shit day in and day out and really only can be watched for a season before it's all been done before.

So the writers have to come along and spice things up. Or interject conflict or play up drama so the show can go on.

i like dirty jobs simply because its neat IMO to see how shit is done that I would normally not have an idea about in my day to day.

I like Dirty Jobs and just got into Pawn Stars.

Pawn Stars is hilarious - Rick's watching the security feed from the parking lot. "What's Corey doing looking at a boat?, we don't buy boats." Corey walks in "Hey guys I just bought a boat for $15K"
...or the one where Corey buys a hot air balloon for ~$38K and makes him ask the guy for their money back.

I must admit that 'Pawn Stars' is one of my guilty pleasures. I really get a kick out of those characters and the cool stuff people bring in to pawn or sell. I need a t-shirt that says Chumlee for President.

I like Pawn Stars and Dirty Jobs and sometimes American Pickers. I think it's because it's not a competition and you don't have all the retarded drama. The people are generally likable or funny too.

Hate stuff like Survivor or that singing show.

I really enjoy Pawn Stars. I'm amazed about how much history knowledge Rick has. The show can be educational and entertaining at the same time.
