In a small role inside the grinding corporate persuasion machine, I think he does a good job.
NOW, I understand that his role was focus-group created to be blandly inoffensive and non-threatening and that in liking HIM I am being manipulated by his faceless corporate overlords, not to mention recklessly blurring the lines between the actor himself and his cynically manufactured role.
Nevertheless . . .
I like him. There is FAR more craft into him being that guy in those commercials than the casual observer might see. He does what he does well.
And therefore . . .
I hope for him all the ersatz trappings of modern day pseudo-celebrity -- a blog, a web site, local product endorsements (Come on down to BozoTown Ford!), an endless minor league media half-life such that 40 years from now his agent can still book a reasonably remunerative guest appearance on a third tier talk show, a successful ghost written diet or recipie book and, of course, a successful rehab stint.
Let's not forget the inescapable fact that, no matter how small and generically insignificant he appears to YOU, gentle reader, he will, hands down, score more easy pussy from the cover band lounge room of his local Ramada Inn than you or I ever will.
