I like people, I just don't like being around them.

I have always been a "people person". I get along with pretty much anyone that I come in contact with. But if I could have it my way, I wouldn't want to have to see people face to face. I like the internet because if I get bored with what someone is saying, I can just sign off.

Its not that I don't have awesome friends either. I love the time I do spend with them, I just have to force myself to do it.

Anyone else anti-social like myself?

That's being non-social, not anti-social.
I'm slightly non-social myself. It's not that I don't like to hang out with my friends, but I like to think things by myself sometimes, to work on stuff on my own. It's not that I don't like to be around people, just not as much as other people. I also don't like to make small talk that much, I would rather just jump into a discussion. That's how I've always been, since I was practically a baby.

Yes! I hate small talk. I always figured it was from years in retail where I had to spend the majority of my days engaging in small talk. I also hate long drawn out stories.

JUST GET TO THE POINT!!!!

Antisocial (against society) is often used in colloquial speech to mean unfriendly or not sociable (asocial), expressing antisociality. In scientific use, antisocial refers more specifically to a person who is harmful or hostile to others, or to society in general.

It's making words come out of your mouth even though you really have nothing to say. Some people do it because they think they need to fill the silence. Personally I love silence, and it makes me a bit angry to think that I have to pay attention to some fool who's tongue is hooked in the middle so it can wag at both ends out of politeness when there are other things I could be doing. Chances are the person who's talking isn't even interested in what he's saying. WTF doesn't he shut up and let people get on with their business?

internet people don't like small talk because they're socially inept and it makes them all squirmy and scared.

the reason you like internet people more is because you suck at IRL.

Silence is golden.
"Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent." - Proverbs 17:28

Maybe not anti-social, but perhaps a bit more socially "challenged" than the rest of us (non-lifers)? :D

As a stereotypical engineer, I am much more comfortable dealing with inanimate objects than with people. It therefore came as something of a disappointment to me when I discovered that most everything I needed to accomplish involved dealing with people at some point in the process.

The ability to build and maintain working/social relationships with people is a valuable skill that is worth your effort to develop. The superficial virtual friendships that work here in ATOT are not as well suited to your life in the "real world".

My two cents... :) - to - :)

Only thing worse than small talk or long, pointless stories is gossip.
No, I don't want to hear about what so-and-so said so-and-so #2 supposedly said or did.
If I did, I would ask the person myself. Mind your own business, as I'm sure you don't like other people talking about you behind your back. Say it to the person's face, or keep quiet.

Being in sales, I would love it if I could just skip the small talk and get down to the nitty gritty with people. But that's not the way that we work as humans. No one would trust me if I walked in and started the conversation with facts/charts/etc. People need to get eased into things and small talk is part of that game.
