Got it refurbed, the shipping is really high, $200 bucks for pickup at yellow freight. When they say it sounds airy, they aint joking, it is ridiculously airy when paired with the T-amp. The image is still there, hasn't been overwhelmed by it, but it sounds like im the only one sitting in a large empty concert hall. And the sound is very relaxing too, smooth and non-fatigue. I am digging it.

Oh and the bass, it's got none under 100Hz. It starts to roll off at 120Hz. But coming from a bass reflex full ranger, I have no complain here!!

Sweet. Love the looks of them. I've got 3 X-CS in Moho Satin and a matching MFW-15 on their way. Got all four of them for $700 + shipping.

They've got a lot of bad publicity from a few things, but av123 really does know how to build a beautiful looking and sounding speaker and sell it for a great price.

Got pics of your new X's?

will get pictures up soon, i got a moho rosa satin.

just found out that it does have bass!! i was mistaken by a huge dip at 120Hz, i grabbed a test tone generator and it indeed does base all the way down to 60Hz. time to play with the equalizer =/

I was wondering wtf was going on, but I didn't say anything before.

Before you break out the equalizer and try to correct a huge dip, can you play with placement a bit? (of both the speakers and the seating position?

120hz dip is most likely due to the placement of your speaker with respect to the front wall. I would wager that you have your speaker relatively close to the rear wall, most likely the front baffle is close to 2'4" away from the front wall. By increasing that distance to 4', the null will decrease in frequency to roughly 80hz, which is where you can get some help from a subwoofer placed elsewhere in the room to break that null.

I am refering to the 1/4 wave null that exits the rear of the speaker and cancels with the source wave.

The way I calculated it is:

Speed of sound: 1130 ft/s
Problem Frequency: 120hz
1/4 wavelength of 120hz is 2.333' roughly.

I would not toy around with eq. Not for a null at least. The best and easiest way is to give the speakers more room. Especially since they are dipole speakers, they need a lot of space around them. The more space you give them, the lower in frequency that "air" you hear will extend to...

just found out from testing that at about 110Hz is where it switch to use of the bottom woofer mostly, im literrally sitting right next to them so my ears are off axis =P, and without my room resonating (it does at about 80-100Hz, another problem to tackle) it almost seem the bass was gone completely. maybe i should move them further than 3 feet from me lol.

edit: didn't see your reply tiamat, i am going to do some google a bit to understand what you just said. right now they are placed about half feet from the front wall (the wall that is facing me)

Basically, what I saying is that it is a possibility that the sound that exits the rear of the speaker hits the wall behind them and reflects back into the source wave cancelling a portion of it.

Easiest test: move speakers out more into the room, retest, see what happens to the null. If it goes to a lower frequency, this is the problem I talked about.

When you say they are 0.5' away from front wall, are you talking about the rear of the bass speaker, or the front of the speaker cabinet? Measure (with a tape measure) the distance from the very front of the speaker to the wall behind it, that will approximate the null 1/4 wave frequency.

Speed = distance * frequency.

Speed = 1139 ft/s
distance = distance from front of speaker to wall behind the speaker

This is only 1 of many possible problems you could be having, but it is an easier one to figure out. Another possible problem is that your listening chair happens to be in a bad spot within the room. This is another one that is easy for you to figure out (just move your chair and remeasure).

thanks guys!! sitting back about 2 feet further solves the problem. I will try to place it further from the wall when i get a chance to see if it can do anything with the resonance.

The best cures are the ones that cost 0$ :)

Enjoy!

Glad to hear you like them! I've been enjoying mine for right at about a year.
These are installed in my bonus room which has a roof line about at the halfway mark creating a hopper like effect behind the speakers. Mine are placed right at about three feet from the front of the speaker to the rear wall, maybe a bit more. I was actually surprised at how low mine seemed to go. The bass response is better than my X-SLS set for sure. Hopefully the VOCE will sound as good once I figure out a stand and placement solution for it.

Nice grab! I love my AV123's (X-LS, X-SLS). Mine are in a rather large, open room with vaulted ceilings and do a very good job of filling the room with sound. I didn't go with their sub and got a HSU Research VTF 2 Mk instead. Couldn't be happier!
