Yea, school is majorly dumbed down.

I still remember in high school I was suspended for the following dialog with my 'world history teacher' after the end of the 1st 9weeks.

Me: So when are we going to study China, Japan, Russia, or some other country? Some African history would be really nice.
Her: This course concentrates mainly on Europe and it's expansion.
Me: Why do they call this 'World History'.
Her: Don't take things so literally.
Me: Just another damn class about dead white people. . . (and yes I'm white, but find other cultures fascinating)

School is over-rated

What grade are you in?

I'm 23 and a graduate. I never had cable television my whole life til a year ago and The History Channel is my favorite. O yeah and I don't know how you guys can watch MTV for more than a hour. It's just filled with trash programming.

We really need a whole section in the Forums just for this. On a personal note, it seems in school we spend more time proving we learned something than the actual learning. (I'll get back to this later.)

MTV actualy used to show videos of music, hence music television.
Sadly they have stopped doing this and now are just a giant channel of suck.

They need to reform schooling. Text Books as the main source of information in the 21st Century? cmon.

Nah. I would say there are more options on your path of education. People can get by doing the minimal curriculum. That's why you think school is dumped down. The school system is better now because there's more room for weeding out the unqualified.

You know even though they show WW2 related material %50 of the time I still learned alot more watching other non WW2 related material they do show than all of school such as history on Jeruselum and the Importance of the Holy Land for Muslims and Christians, Rise and Fall of the great Ghengis Khan, Roman Society and Architecture, the whole Chinese History, Pre-Bronze Age Europe, Middle East , Etc. Things school would never spend resources getting deeply involved in such things.
