If you ever find you're in a really bad situation concerning your credit rating, you can blitz it back to somewhat respectable status by doing the following.

Obtain a retail store's credit card, of have one handy just in case....like a macy card.
Buy something stupidly cheap, like pins or hair crap or whatever and put it on the card.
The next day, walk into the store and pay out the full balance. Put something else ridiculously cheap on it. Repeat the pay off, buy something cycle the next day.

Continue this for a week and your credit rating should be in "non-suckery".

How did I discover this?
A friend of mine, who I know for a fact has absolute garbage credit(has had cards rejected and confiscated/cut, denied for even a basic student card) was rejected for a cell phone without deposit. A week later, he's carrying a samsung v66 around...when I asked him wtf just happened, he told me he did what he did and it worked.

Now the embedded question...can any macy/retail employees here confirm this?

Somehow I doubt your friend's story. I'm not saying he didn't try it, but I don't think his credit report/rating would be updgraded enough in one week's time to make a difference.

I'm pretty sure credit card company's only report to the agencies at the maximum once a month.

I believe it takes awhile for things to show up on a credit report. Like a month or two.

IMHO I don't believe that would be enough to change your credit that much. I know many places that are retail that you cannot just walk in and pay a credit card payment.

This is true, but I do know the macy's near me will let you settle out your balance in person.

I don't doubt that your friend partook in this tomfoolery, but I think he has erroneously assigned causation.
