Everyone here said not to get Ivy Bridge because it ran hot. I ran into a 3770K that was marginally cheaper than a 2600K, so I opted for it anyway. I just thought I'd make sure to cool it well.
First I delidded it. The paste job was awful - I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. There was a large rectangular bump in the middle of the chip, and I always read about an even surface transferring heat best, so I sanded it down until it was flat. Now my PC won't boot. What did I do wrong here? I paid $280 for this thing!
