You are a shitty driver and I hope you lose your license/car somehow.

I hate it when people automatically generalize speeders as shitty drivers. Ok; while I agree speeding in excess is dangerous, there is a lot more involved in driving than just the speed your going. Someone traveling 20 over the limit, but knows what the fuck they are doing is a hell of a lot better than someone doing the limit, but paying no attention at all.

I see it all the time: failing to signal when turning, failing to signal when changing lanes, driving in 2 lanes at once, cutting off other drivers, failing to merge properly, failing to yield, failing to stop for pedestrians in cross walks, but they are doing the speed limit. Does that make them good drivers?? I don't think so...

He didn't say speeders were shitty drivers, he called the guy that stays in the left lane because he thinks he is right a shitty driver.

On a multi-lane highway what is the problem with staying in the left lane, as long as you are still passing people, and not just choking traffic?

That's the whole point of the thread. GTFO of the 'passing' lane if you are not passing. Passing on the right is probably more dangerous than doing 10 MPH over the speed limit.

Makes sense. I got off on a bit of a tangent there :p

I will admit though I have no problem with "undertaking" when some douche is sitting in the left lane doing 20 under.

Basically what Dank said. Speeding isn't dangerous. Reckless speeding is, which is weaving in and out of traffic, that is wrong and dangerous. Going with the flow of traffic, passing people in the left lane, driving in the right lane if not passing is the correct way to drive. People who clog up the left lane going slow, and not using it as intended, are the dangerous drivers because it interrupts the flow of traffic, forcing other drivers to weave around.

You can go as slow as you want on the right lane, since the left lane is there for people to pass you. If you go slow in the left lane being oblivious or thinking you are right, you are a terrible driver. If you go slow in the left lane while the right lane is occupied, ending up blocking all traffic, you deserve to die in a fire.

I am curious as to how jlee feels, since he is a state trooper or something.

I drive the interstate pretty much every day of my life and try my best to be courteous to other drivers who want to go faster than me. When I pass, I try to do it at a decent speed, and I get out of the way of people coming up faster behind me (if possible). I will NOT speed up past 5MPH over the limit to get out of your way though.

It will be obvious that I'm passing someone and I will get out of your way shortly. However, if you're going to be an asshole and ride my bumper, I take that as a sign that you want me to go the speed limit. I'll slow down immediately and give you a nice wave for reminding me.

Nothing makes my day better knowing that I delayed an asshole from getting where he was going by about 10 seconds.

Exactly the things that make me go *RAGE!!!* I used to commute 1.5 hours each way. Stuff like this made me feel like blowing my brains out by the time I got home.

I remember one day specifically when there were 2 cars side by side doing the exact same speed. The car on the left (occupied by some teenage douchebag) absolutely would not pass. Finally the guy on the right turned off and I attempted to "undertake" the guy in the left. Of course as soon as I tried the teenage asshole decides to start speeding up. Eventually I was doing about 200 kph just to get by him. I know it was dangerous, but why the fuck would you speed up when I'm trying to pass you buddy? A nice example of someone being a dick just because they can.

If it doesn't take you like 30 seconds to pass one car, that is fine and what you are doing is safe and right. The ones that I feel are wrong are those who try to pass like a line of cars but they go maybe 3 or 5 miles per hour faster than the right lane. They are technically passing but they are doing it in a way that shows they suck at driving.

I've even had an experience where a NJ State Trooper did not pull me over for going 80-85mph in a 65 zone because I was passing a line of three trucks. While passing the third, I checked my rear view mirror and saw a state trooper on my ass. My first thought was "Oh shit I'm screwed." When I left the left passing lane after I finished passing, the trooper drove right by as if nothing happened.

I was driving through Toronto the other night, at about 8pm, which is when all the trucks come out on the 401. I kept getting stuck behind transports that were driving 101 km/h trying to pass 6 others that were going 100km/h.

new philosophy...obey speed limits or do not drive. ever. again.
How about obey ALL road signs? If you're so much into obeying, there's your freaking sign, obey it! GTF over.

And blahblahyoutooshithead, stop with your never-funny comments about other people's English. Fact of the matter is, they're probably more successful than you are, better looking, have larger penises, have a better lives, know MORE languages than you do, or all of the above. In short, fuck off.

Every fucking threads I post, there you are with your "OMG, I know English! You go home." crap. Stop it! Are you really that big of a loser and a child? (It's fucking rhetorical, don't answer it just in case you're tempted).

In Texas it is the law. Can receive a ticket for left-lane driving.

In Alberta, Canada it's the exact opposite. If the speed limit of the 2 lane highway is 110km/h and you are going 140k in the left lane, you WILL get a ticket for speeding. The left lane is not a passing lane; it's just a second lane. Yesterday I drove back and forth between Edmonton and Calgary, and both lanes were packed full of cars the entire 300km (200 mile) drive.

The other thing is that on freeways you're supposed to stay out of the right lane because that lane is for people getting onto the freeway. If everyone stayed in that lane, how the fuck are people supposed to merge? They would smash into a bumper to bumper wall of cars.

Motorists in general just need to calm down and be patient. What's the hurry? If you're always in such a rush you should consider leaving earlier.

If I'm speeding, I'm speeding for one of various reasons:

1. For fun. Yes, I was at one time one of those douchebags with a fast car or fast bike that loved to go as fast as possible - albeit safely - and I could regale you with stories of my stupidity.
2. In a hurry. Sometimes due to things out of my control (traffic, line at store/bank/restaurant, slept late (it happens!)), I need to pick up the pace. If I lived close by wherever i'm going it may not matter, but when 30-40 miles are at stake, a slight increase in speed will get me there reasonably faster.
3. I'm in a bad driving mood. Sometimes I just want to get off the road as fast as possible. The easiest way to do that is to drive faster. This is especially true if it is starting to rain or if it looks like it's going to dumb balls all over me.

Personally I take pleasure in deliberately causing people to drive uncomfortably slow. They get so fucking mad it's hilarious. Probably wouldn't d it in the USA because nine times out of ten they're armed and will whack me.

I stay to the right when I feel like doing the SL but asshats still tailgate me. I move over to the middle and another asshat comes to tailgate me.

The left lanes are clear and these asshats can clearly pass me without harm but they plant their car behind me and tail. Reluctant or scared to go on the left lane to pass yet my car and speed is too slow so you tailgate me. Fuck.

The way to get people to stop tailgating you is to drive slower. Here's why
-he's tailing you because he wants to drive faster
-he's too lazy to go around
-if you slow right down, he'll get so angry that he'll go around

I swear it works every time. Just try not to do this in heavy traffic because then you would also be slowing a lot of innocent people down and that would just be a dick move. When there's no traffic and there's that 1 car tailgating, just take your foot right off the gas and slow right down until he fucks off. There was one time a friend did this and we slowed right down to about 40 in a 60 zone and the guy was still tailgating. We just kept going slower and slower until we were basically at a dead crawl and the guy went around. It was about 2am and no other cars were around :D

I love these people. As soon as you get out from in front of them, they zoom up to the next car in line and ride their ass. All the while having plenty of opportunity to pass in another lane.

Maybe they're just trying to save gas. I remember one time I was low on gas and wasn't sure I could make it back to town, so I was tailgating an 18 wheeler. The instantaneous fuel gauge in the car said I was getting over 60 miles per gallon while doing that! I did that because I didn't want to get stranded, but some people might do stuff like that just because they like money and don't really care if it's slightly dangerous.

ive been known to do this as well LOL

its quite funny TBH, last time i did it it caused the person behind me to pass me on the shoulder in a construction zone, 5 miles up the road he was having a nice conversation with 2 state troopers who felt the need to draw their guns
