I know this is silly, but which platform should I go with if I don't intend to overclock at all?

Which platform should I go with? An AMD/SiS735 setup? An AMD/KT266A setup? An AMD/KT333 setup? An AMD/nForce setup? A P4/i850/RDRAM setup? A P4/i845D/DDR266 setup? Or a P4/SiS645/DDR333 setup? (Note that all of the above AMD setups use DDR memory.) I don't intend to overclock my CPU or memory beyond the specs of either part.

And which brand of motherboard should I go with with whatever processor you'd recommend? (Again, this is for one who never intends to overclock.)

Any suggestions?

I would appreciate your help.

I personally favor one of your Intel setups. Intel been around since before the micr-proccessor revolution. If you were to get an Intel processor i would get the i850 chipset with RDRAM because RDRAM beets out DDR on benchmarks when not overclocked. If you are not going to overclock I would get an Intel motherboard like the D850MV series because they run very very stable.

by the what what KraziKid said about intel motherboard running "very very stable" is absolutly correct... he just failed to mention that an athlon system is just as stable :D

Intel Pentium4 is probably a tad bit more stable when put on a RDRAM platform compared to AMD Athlon XP (see http://www.emulators.com/pentium4.htm). Athlon XP is still the best bang for the buck but Intel just has a tad bit more stability.

RDRAM is a stable platform, but rumors are going around that this is the last round for rdram chipsets, making upgrading in the future a hassle.
