Props for actually wanting to learn how to overclock instead of using someone else's settings and coming on the forum because your crashing all over the place.
That's a horrible horrible guide in my opinion. Since your new to overclocking I much recommend starting on this one

That guide is based on the old FSB system. There are some differences with overclocking a Nehalem system, but nothing that big. CPUz is a must, download that and have a look around.
Really the biggest resource you have is yourself. If a settings makes something unstable ask yourself what is happening. A lot of people get excited and just start pushing clocks up on every component;however, if you are attempting to push as much out of your setup as possible you should find the max speed of each component individually. I believe the guide should cover that.
After reading those guides I really think a new one should be written. The C2Q one can be superfluous at points, and the Nehalem is written terribly with large amounts of unnecessary information.
