I know nothing about networking...

I really have no idea about anything when it comes to networking. I posted a few days ago about my satellite internet. The ONLY options I have is 56k or Satellite. At my grandparents house where I am staying they have AOL on their computer, I use satellite. I can't stand how my internet goes out when it rains outside.... so I tried to install AOL on my computer and run their phone line to my computer. All I did was plug it into an ethernet port on my A8N Sli mobo, but no activity lights came on to show any connection or activity. Is there some card I have to buy to make it work? AOL Told me no phone line was detected... I want to try 56k vs satellite to see what I like better. I can't play any games at all with satellite, I could probably play games with 56k but with a high ping. So the question is.... What do I have to do to make AOL recognize the phone line and what do you think about 56k VS satellite? Thanks in advance

What's your price range. 🙂
At $5-50, your going to get a "softmodem/winmodem" which offloads all the "thinking" to the computer/windows.
It doesn't make sence to spend $100 for something such slow speeds.

Well I just want the best thats available to me, I know it's crap but I still want it. Satellite is $60/month for god sake.
