I know nothing about intel: does the fsb on the mobo have to be the same as the CPU?

A motherboard with 533 MHz bus will support...

1) All socket-478 "Northwood" CPUs with a 533 MHz FSB. However, you may not have support for "Prescott" CPUs, even if they run at FSB533. If you're having trouble distinguishing Prescotts from Northwoods, just look at the L2 cache. If the CPU has a 512KB L2, it's a Northwood, but if it has a 1MB L2, it's a Prescott. If your board does support Prescott architecture, then you need not worry about that distinction--it will support all socket-478 FSB533 CPUs.

2) All socket-478 CPUs with a 400 MHz FSB. Every single one, from the Pentium 4 1.5 GHz to the Celeron 2.8 GHz.
