The question is, does anyone know where to get it? I need the 16 bit version as the 32 bit version will not work in NT/2000. The my parents still pay for AOL because of my sister, and I figure I may as well have a way to access the service. I have tried searching Yahoo, CNet, ZDNet, and AOL's FTP site for the 16 bit version of AOL 3.0, but I cannot find it anywhere, if someone happens to have an old AOL disk with the 16 bit version of 3.0 on it I would be very grateful if they could E-mail the setup file to me. I would also appreciate it if anyone can link me to a place that has the file. Thanks a lot, I know that AOL is 'persona non grata' here, but I also figured that if anyone would know it would be you guys.

EDIT: Got the problem fixed, thanks to everyone who tried to help me. Sorry I didn't know about the 2MB limit in Hotmail Mday, I appreciate the effor nonetheless. For the record, I don't like AOL, but as long as my family keeps paying for it and my user name is till active I may as well have a way to access it. If you want to know, I ended up with the 16 bit version of 4.0. It's not all that stable, but at least it doesn't generate errors as the 32 bit version did. Thanks again guys.

There is a 16-bit version of AOL 4.0 you know...and i think any AOL disk that doesnt have 6.0 on it I believe has a directory called 'win16' or something along those lines, whhich would have what you need. But I don't have any copies though :p

Incoming flames in 5... 4... 3... 2.....

BTW, I don't see why it won't run on Win 2k/NT. They are both 32bit compliant OS'es. The 16bit version is for win 3.1 users.

Some of the CDs come with 3.0. However, if you need a version for the NT kernel, get 6.0, there is a version of 6.0 for win2k.

The 32 bit version detects the OS as NT and refuses to install. Yeah, it would be on an AOL CD, but all my AOL coasters are at home and not in my dorm here, and I'm not making a special 4 hour trip just for an AOL disk. Maybe I should request one sent to my dorm room. :)

EDIT: The 6.0 for NT/2000 tries to autoupdate itself and freezes in the middle. From just futzing with AOL on my family's computer, the last version I have found to be stable enough was 3.0.

3.0 is not only not made for NT/2K it is also no longer supported. 6.0 and certain revisions of 5.0 are for NT/2K.

<<3.0 is not only not made for NT/2K it is also no longer supported. 6.0 and certain revisions of 5.0 are for NT/2K. >>

I know AOL doesn't support it any longer, but I also know that the 16 bit version will work with NT just fine and that the versions available currently on the AOL download page for 2000 crash when they try to automatically update themselves (ie the "please wait while we add new features to AOL" dialog comes up) and I get a message from 2000 saying that AOL has generated errors and 2000 shuts it down. So, even though AOL claims that 5.0 and 6.0 will work on NT/2000, they refuse to do so on my machine. That is why 5.0 and 6.0 are not acceptable, I have tried 4.0 as well, it does the same thing as 5.0 and 6.0. I'm not so dumb that I didn't try these things first, AOL 3.0 is the last alternative I can think of as 4.0-6.0 don't play nicely with my machine.

EDIT: PLEASE, no more suggestions that I try the 4.0, 5.0, or 6.0 versions for NT/2000, they do not work on my machine, I have tried them.

Mday: I would be very grateful if you could E-mail AOL 3.0 to me. The 4.6 meg file is preferable, but the 1.3 meg is fine and probably a better option if you have a dial-up connection. My E-mail address is Accord_LXi@hotmail.com. Thanks a lot.

I think it's all the device drivers in the laptop that don't like certain programs.

6.0 works fine on 2K, i'm using it as we speak, using TCP/IP to connect over my DSL connection, and have used the AOL dial in using my 56k (when the DSL was down) with no problems.

Why don't you use the 4.0 16 bit version then? It is on the 5.0 discs. It is also not supported but you don't seem to care about that. In most cases if your AOL locks or crashes during the update it is a problem with your video card drivers. Try setting your display mode to 256 colors during the update.

The ones the work for AOL internal are the ones you have to look out for. The ones outsourced to SSI are the techs yoou need.
