I was doing some testing on my new game box. I did the normal 3dMark bench's and got a score of 8192. Then i went and updated the drivers to the Catalyst 3.0 and DirectX 9 drivers and the score went down to 5267. It could be me but i thought it should have gone HIGHER not lower. Is there a logical explaination for this?

oh, the system is:

Athlon 1800+ *tbred b) clocked w/ 11.5x140
Samsung 512MB PC2700 (w/ the agressive settings set)
Gigabyte 7VKMP Rev 3.3
Radeon 8500 128MB
Sound Blaster Audigy
80GB Maxtor

Oh almost forgot. I reinstalled my system from scratch when i went to the catalyst 3.0/directx drivers.

DirectX 9 did the exact same thing to me. OpenGL performance remained the same while D3D took a dive. You have two choices to get your performance back. Do a google search for "Direct-X Buster" it worked for me. Download that, bust DX, reinstall your drivers, and pray. Otherwise, you may just have to reformat.

Edit: DX 8.1 is still number 1 IMO
