I know it will sound like HERESY around here but. . . .

I'm like Johnny on the Spot in your threads tonight...

but I agree with you on this. I sold mine on FS/FT b/c I really wasn't interested in repeated viewings.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The movies were back alley coat-hanger style abortions of the books

That said, they are still better than 95% of the crap that gets put out today. I've watched them all several times.

I've probably watched each about five times:

Three times through in Dolby DTS ES Discrete, once for the Peter Jackson/Fran Walsh/Philippa Boyens commentary, and once for the cast commentary.

Plus all the appendicies! This thread makes me want to go watch again...

:)

PS: Yes, it could be argued that I have a problem.

I hate to admit it, but you have a point. Who the hell has the time to watch 15 hours of movie? I think I've watched each of ours once or twice.

I like the movies better then the books.

The Fellowship of the Ring book is so slow. It's we're walking, we're walking, we're walking, Look it's Tom Bombadillio, we're walking and singing, we're walking and singing, we're walking, we're walking, we're walking. The movie gets rid of that crap.

The Second part of the Two Towers is so slow. It's we're walking, we're walking, Oh the ring is so heavy, we're walking, we're walking, The ring is such a burden, we're walking we're walking. The movie is better because it mixes in the Frodo/Sam scenes with the better Aragorn/Gimili/Legolas/Gandalf the White scenes so it isn't as boring.

I like the book version of Return of the King though. That is just about as good as the movie.

I've watched the first one three times, the second one twice, and the third only once. I think they have replay value. You're entitled to your opinion, of course.

I do buy movies for scenes that I want to replay or great visual effects for testing my HT, but it's rare for me to actually watch a movie over and over. And 3+ hour movies (LOTR and Bollywood included) are rarely replayed in their entirety in my house.

All of them are great, and fairly faithful to the books. I can't really stand to own any movies though ... just won't watch them regularly enough to justify purchase. I'll shoot myself in the foot when I admit to purchasing the DVD Star Wars Trilogy last weekend ... but they're the only movie DVD's I own.
