contemplating getting an Ipod for my son for Christmas and found a used on on Craigslist. Sent and email and received this response:

However, as I was waiting for a response, I got looking at some Zune's. Received the response and responded back with this:

Now, I get this response from her:

Hi,

My boyfriend is selling his zune. It is also in mint condition. We both just bought phones that hold music. I will admit that I liked his zune more. It allowed you more freedom instead of itunes. You could download and upload music on any computer. It also downloaded cool band pics and information that my ipod would never do. His is the Zune HD platinum 32gb. He is selling it for $160.

Thanks,

Marlana

Something inside me is saying "How convenient", but then again it's not out of the realm of possibility. Not sure what my next play is or if I'm being scammed.

Tell her that the sony walkman actually is looking better than the zune. Laugh as another family member gets a walkman. Do again with the toshiba gigabeat for even more hilarity.

I just bought a zune HD. I find the interface a little annoying. Also, no volume rocker on the side. They were selling the 32GB new for $188 with an FM transmitter or HD dock at walmart weeks ago.

Meet at the mall to look at/buy it? You have to be extraordinarily stupid to get scammed on CL.

This isn't really setting off my scam detector. As others have suggested, meet in public, verify the Zune works, pay for it and go on your merry way.

I'm really happy with my Zune now. I've still got one of the old school 30GB models. When I first bought it(used) I had an issue with it not charging, a cheap motherboard replacement fixed that problem, and I've had nothing but good experiences since then.

The biggest plus in my book is having a Zune Pass w/ access to the marketplace for putting almost any song I want on my computers/Zune. Usually what happens is that I'll be sitting around hanging out with some friends with some tunes on... someone will recommend I listen to something... so I pick up my Zune search for it and start playing it within a few minutes, all without having to touch my PC.

It's odd but since you'll meet in person, I don't see the problem.

Yeah, same. Scams almost always involve shipping something while also giving you a deal that is too good to pass up. And scam artists seem to target sellers, not buyers.

You're right, I think I was just being a little skeptical.

This is only sketchy if you're doing a paypal/shipping/internet sale. Which you shouldn't be.

Just got word from her that the Ipod has been sold. Trying to line up a date to meet with her boyfriend to see the Zune.
