@ my work I have a union..

The union president always has some badass connections going on..

So yea anyways, The other day he came up to me and asked if I was in the market for a brand new TV. And I was like "yea, but I can't really afford it" So he then tells me he can get ANY TV from ANYWHERE for half price. I just have to get 3 things for him - Model number, Brand and price (then divide that by 2). This is a guy I trust btw. So later I ended up getting a 47inch hdtv for $700 (it was over 2000$ but I told him the wrong price *grin*) (my friends dad got a $8000 hdtv for $4500...)

But yea here is what I'm wondering. I've known alot of people who hustle like this. He isn't the top guy in this "scam" but like I said I've been around this. But never before have I heard of a person being able to get basically anything for half price.

I'm talking anything from Bestbuy, Lowes, Circuit City, etc..

TV's
Computers
Laptops
Home theater setups
Dryers
Washers
Stoves...

etc etc, u get it

I'm just wondering how the ****** he is doing this.. it's pretty big - I've heard of inside jobs.. Like working at the stores warehouse, stuff "disapearing" from a truck, etc etc. But like I said.. this is multiple stores.

ANyone know how the ****** this dude is scamming these places?

I can't get it out of my head. I'm so curious on how he is doing this it's just driving me nuts.. argh.

(I'm curious how he is doing it.. not wanting to do it myself. Jail isn't for me)

Do you smell it? Yup, it's BS.

Margins on big TVs are VERY LOW; big chains make their money on selling warranties and accessories.

I'm not sure how multi-billion dollar retailers pay more for TVs than your backwoods friend.

Oh, actually, I do know. Stolen property.

OP, this thread reminds me of HBO's "The Wire", Season 2. Anyone else watch that? :p

While you are very likely correct, you are still stating conjecture, not fact.

No ****** its stolen... DUH.

Fact is he can get ANYTHING from ANYWHERE in 1 days time. All you need is the model number and price. He gets exactly what you ask for.

Its a tad hard to just steal something like a big ass TV. Specially from multiple places. He has to have some inside thing going..

It's still stealing, even if it's people inside the companies...
Just means there's a network of people stealing ******.

Why wouldn't you ask him how he is purchasing things for half price before buying something from him?

Not advisable to ask such questions. :)

I'd tend to think it is something shady unless the union has, as part of its benefits package, a way to order this stuff from something more tangible than a union "boss" sliding up next to you and offering anything you want from the big box stores for half of retail....you know, like a website, catalog, something like that.

My wife's company has, too, offers it gives its employees to purchase a lot of junk through its purchasing programs. Currently, IBM is its computer supplier so employees can purchase under the company's negotiated discounts and get the company's pricing, but it's nowhere near 1/2 price. But you don't have to seek out anyone and "arrange" the buy, just use your employee number on the benefits website of the company, follow the links to the buy/offers they currently have, and buy through them.

It'd seem easy for a box of whatever to disappear from a distribution warehouse of whatever items are wanted since the boxes' packing lists have what's inside each box. It's as easy as looking up on the warehouse computer for routing/package info and for what's inside.....and with more RFID's being used, I'd imagine one would just have to walk the aisles with a handheld scanner, scan boxes until you find the items wanted. Then just dump the RFID into another box........sorry, it got misdelivered.
