looks like you're likely to die if you come out my way, so stay where it is safe and beware the death map.

we are death by nature.

and, it appears if you are in new york, nature won't kill you, taxation will.

Sure, but let's have a plot of the places where you're most likely to get a knife in your gut.

If you're in New York, nature won't kill you, New Yorkers will.

Yes, that's because us people on the coasts are smart enough to live indoors rather than in tents.

There are lots of places with no natural disasters that don't have the liability of being Jersey.

So the people where you live are extra wimpy?

Notice how they leave Alaska off that map? That's because nobody from Alaska would even acknowledge those conditions as dangerous... much less deadly. They die from bush plane crashes and bear attacks... weather has nothing to do with it.

The lower 48 is chock-full of pansies... :p

they must be, but it looks like people in arizona and utah take the brunt of it, and by natural, i guess they mean heat and exposure.

here, the chances of getting mauled by a bear are small, black bears prefer berries. cougar attacks more likely, but if you are dumb enough to be out in the woods at 3 am hiking by yourself have at it. i think we only deal with avalanche, exposure (cold weather) and falling from high places (seems pretty natural)

hey, utah has i's good points. if you like mountain biking, off roading, some of the most scenic hiking.
having some of he most technical off road trails in the world is a big plus in my book.
wouldn't live there, though.

Or the convenience of hospitals and other medical facilities in an acceptable range.

I think people who choose to live where they live already expected the taxes.

And people who live in boonfuckistan have to make threads about why their state is better. We don't care, you can have your place and we'll take ours. How's the beach by you, btw?

Flawed map. Higher population density = higher death rates.

They should make a map to highlight boredom, lack of education and lack of good restaurants. You'd see a lot of red in the middle of the country.

"heat accounts for the majority of natural hazard deaths in the United States." Natural disasters are not what make these places dangerous, its the heat. Why not just show a map of average temperature and say stay away from the warm places.
