I knew Vista was a memory hog, but seriously

I was checking my task manager because 77% of my 4GB of memory is being used while just browsing the web and watching some recorded SDTV and I think I was burning a DVD of some recorded TV too, and noticed my sidebar was using 185MB of RAM. I looked at it closer and there's 2 sidebar processes taking up a total of 200MB of RAM.

You can see I'm not running much on the sidebar, what is this about? Are we really going to need 8GB of RAM for a high end rig in the near future because programmers can't keep stuff within reason anymore?

I would guess it's a runaway gadget. My 2 sidebar process' don't use more than 40mb, and I have a bunch of gadgets running.

Same. Two users on this machine use sidebar, and our combined 4 processes are less than 80MB. (I have seven gadgets in my sidebar atm.)

Yep, and I hope it stays as cheap (or cheaper) than it is now

Sidebar shouldn't need 200MB, 40 to 80MB is pretty common. I'd look for a memory leaking gadget...
