I got 6.7mbps consistent on my 12GB CoH2 Beta DL the other day, pretty sweet.

My peak is 2.1MB/s which is pretty good for a 19$/month connection in Alberta, Canada.

Just curious, why did you blank out your steam name ?

Posted it elsewhere and used a public image host, didn't want random crap from people popping up.

Also, I have all of 3mb DSL at the moment so not use to seeing much over about 350kb/s.

I wish there was way to throttle Steam. Having it pulling 30MBps constantly and then be stuck surfing on your phone until the download is finished.

Use netlimiter...that's what I do to throttle steam.

What I hate is that Steam pauses your downloads while you are playing a game (even if it's not an online game).

Pause then restart them as the game is loading, they will continue on in the background.

I would love to be able to limit it though, set it to like 10mb/s and let it go for awhile, meanwhile nothing else is dramatically effected by it.

In the beta client you can now limit the DL speed, but from what I read (dunno if it is true or not) there isn't a field currently to input your own value only preset ones that aren't very good.

Is that even an issue when you're downloading at 30MBps?? You must download any game in minutes at that speed.

lol

Half the time steam can't even handle my 85mbps. FIOS is nice though. Even when it is maxed out, pings are still low and web browsing is virtually the same as when idle.

My gosh that is good, what is your ISP?

I'm paying $52/month for Bell's Fibe 10. I am limited to 50GB a month, which includes both download and upload (just 50GB of total usage). I'd need to pay $10 extra/month if I want unlimited usage, so that would be $62/month. I cannot download faster than around 1.4MB/s or so (10.50 Mbps/s is my highest), and my upload speed is craptacularly slow at around 750KB/s (0.72Mpbs is about the highest I've seen).

The competition isn't much better either for a similar speed, at around $51/month and very slightly better download speeds, or one I've seen at around $43/month but with significantly slower download speeds (and upload speed is slower, and got less Internet usage). All our "major" ISPs here suck really big balls and are expensive for what they offer, that is in my opinion anyway.

I wish I'd pay $20/month for 2.0MB/s of download speed, at that point I wouldn't mind much about anything else at that price.

Oh, by the way OP, that speed is epic, haha, what's your ISP? :p

Sorry, Mbps, not MBps...Line speed test usually gives me a number around 38Mbps so I'm guessing the peak cap on my line is 40Mbps, which would be theoretically up to 5MB/s.

In reality when I download from Steam I usually average around 3.6MB/s, which is closer to 30Mbps in practice.

If you're going to go with a larger byte size, why arbitrarily stop at petabytes?

3.19 exabytes/s

It took me a bit to figure out what to call that number, mostly because I haven't been thinking of anything past petabytes.

I have ATT, so just getting the speed I pay for is typically a cause for mild celebration. Naturally they tell me I live too far from the box to get 6mb, the fastest they offer out here. 1 mile in either direction of my driveway are charter and wind stream, both offering far higher speeds. They just won't go all the way down the road( its a loop) as there's a about a half mile stretch that is mostly undeveloped. Charter told me it would cost 50k due to a need to run fiber, I asked if there was a payment plan on that but they told me no.:'(

not to sound to harsh.. but even at that speed the big games take like 60 minutes.. unless you are downloading several games every day.. cant you maybe do something else for 60 minutes? hehe cant surf fast... its like the people complaining that they make millions and have to pay in so much in taxes.. easy.. don't make it.. join the rest of us who get to download games in half days.. No i actually get about eh same speed you do.. but I really dont have to much problems doing more stuff.. maybe no Netflix (no, i can do that too, but its really crappy looking).. Im just giving ya heck.. not the worst problem you could have. :)
