And also why your in a shit hole when it comes to debuging.

You dont have any extra parts so you really cant swap out to test.


At this moment you can try to replace the board... however if chip is dead, you need to buy a new chip. The total you spent in this path could of gotten you a low end P35 board /w 2180 that could oc moderately.

You really need to think if it is "worth" salvaging your system or upgrading. :X


But i think you have the DFI cold bug. It sounds like what i used to have.

NEWS! And you're going to LOL when you read this.

I was fiddling around inside the machine and decided to remove the CPU and HSF. I cleaned the HSF and put them all back in. Obviously not wise without a new coat of thermal, but w/e. As I properly clipped the HSF in, I notice that the 12v connector from my PSU is not connected to my motherboard!!!! 😱

What I must've done is whilst resetting the CMOS, somewhere in between I must've disconnected all the cables and put it back together again and forgot the 12v connector! Now I boot up and things happen onscreen. YESSSSSSS. VICTORY IS MINE.

Reset all the BIOS settings, and F10'd it. Boots up and gets to POST, and it doesn't boot to OS, because the HDDs have some sort of error now. I make sure they are properly connected w/ master slave all proper, and its kinda not booting 🙁. I think what's happened is my HDDs have become corrupt/damaged. Any help with that?

Well now that is a striking outcome, If you had a RAID setup before resetting the cmos I believe you need to redo the RAID array.

Interestingly IDE Master shows correctly as my Maxtor, until you plug in the Western Digital. Then Master shows as "E@ E'@" or something like that, and no Slave shows. And also interestingly, CDRW/DVD combi drive is not showing up. I tried booting with just the Maxtor (contains OS) and no CD drive. Didn't work. Shows as BOOT FAILURE or something like that when it gets to the POST and saves the CMOS.

BTW, didn't have RAID setup before. Didn't know what it was before or why I would really want it. Quick browse of a Wiki shows me that "striping" would seem to be very useful so that all the data appears as one drive. Is that right?

Anyway. Current set up is: end IDE connector on master, Maxtor, mid connector on slave, Western Digital. Separate cable for Samsung CDRW/DVD drive. All on one power connector (splits into three plus a floppy connector).

You may want to clear your cmos again as from the sounds of things you didn't clear it right if you unplugged the 12V connector from the motherboard.

Quick directions:

Switch off the psu, unplug the psu from the ac outlet, open up case, move cmos jumper to correct orientation, wait 30 seconds, press power button on case 3 to 5 times, put cmos jumper back into its normal boot orientation, close up the case, plug back in the psu, switch it on, turn on computer and see if things show up right this time(and maybe boot right...).

That of course is just assuming your grounding yourself properly by either keeping one hand on electrically conductive metal (eg. case) or wearing anti-static wrist strap.

I'd double-check the cable (maybe swap cable), and double-check that you don't have any bent pins, and that the molex connectors are properly plugged in too.

Why do you suggest that? And at this time I have little regard for academic education in so far as the daily grind of getting up early, travelling to University etc and the huge expenses I would gladly use on other things.

As for my computer... I fixed everything. I put my Maxtor on the middle connector and my WD on the end, and it booted fine. Only trouble is, WD is not detected and Windows XP says it needs activation!!! WTF?!
