Installing IAA v2.3 as a regular part of my reformat and reinstalls, until I ran Nero 6's toolkit and found DMA not enabled on my secondary IDE channel which hosts my TDK burner and a 200 GB WD hard drive. On this box when I went to my device mgr the "advanced" properties tab didn't exist! So, I uninstalled IAA and got it back. I had worked the registry to show all devices and info, yet under IAA, I couldn't enable DMA on my secondary IDE channel ...not until I uninstalled it. I'm running XP on everything now and was probably just unaware of this as burning and moving data around wasn't a problem. I haven't benchmarked performance ...before or after. Some people say that with XP, IAA is not necessary. I got into the habit of installing with Intel's 815 and 845 motherboards over time and never snapped.
Is anybody using IAA? And what's the deal with disabling DMA on the secondary IDE channel? Is IAA unnecessary now?
