I killed a cat :(

Going 55 and it's pitch black. About 30 feet in front of me I see a cat crossing to the right. He makes it to the shoulder, but I swerve a bit left to make sure I don't clip him. So of course, the stupid thing crosses back to the middle and I hit him square with my front right tire.

I stopped and pulled him off to the shoulder. Was going to tell the owner, but it didn't have a tag.

I feel bad....

Poor cat. It was probaby instant death though, so hey.

Not exactly.....

I think I saw it breathe once when I pulled it off, but it was going to dead very quickly (bleeding from the neck).

🙁

i love cats.
but...from what you say, it seems like the cat made a pretty poor decision. which is strange to me. most cats ive encountered really hate cars. they tend to steer real clear of a road with any noise running down it.

oh well, as a cat-lover, i absolve you of any sin you feel you may feel you have committed.

Poor thing 🙁 I ran over a racoon a year back as it was running across the street. I felt bad and went back. It was still alive, but about to die. It was bleeding and gasping for air, so I decided to put it out of its misery by driving over it again.

LOL! Why would you do that?

It seemed like the right thing to do. I'd already "killed" it. The least I could do was stop its pain.

Wow, you have alot of class, CR.

Metalloid - Sorry to hear that. Atleast you made an honest effort to resolve the issue. Tags should have been on the animal. Ugh, that sucks 🙁

I'm not sure why you guys find it funny
😕 Smushing a cockroach is fine and good, but a large animal that actually thuds when it hits your car, and seeing its body destroyed kinda sucks!

Hahaha honestly, that exact thought crossed my mind.

But I figured it was almost dead anyway, and if I got in my car and ran over it again, with my luck, somone would see me and think that I aimed for it.

They've probably never been in that type of situation, Skoorb.

It's the "so I decided to put it out of its misery by driving over it again" part. It got me laughing for some reason. I do feel bad about when animals die however. I love animals.

🙁

I actually swerve at night to avoid running over frogs that jump across the road 🙂 Hopefully I'll never swerve into something like a tree...
the "so I decided to put it out of its misery by driving over it again" part
I can see a gossamer thread of morbid humor in the way it was written 😉

I think ending an animal's pain after hitting it would be the best thing to do, although it may seem a little strange to others.

Kudos to you, Skoorb and Warcrow

I'm not sure why, but I found it funny too. 😛 Probably the way you word it 😀

I ran over a beaver once.
Speaking of which, just outside of our subdivision and cleaned up a day or two ago, was a beaver on a bridge that somebody had ran over. It was there for several days and reminded me of Canada, since it's the animal up there, though I've never seen one as up close as dead on this bridge. Weird, I wasn't even sure they really had them here...
