I live next to the Great Lakes. Cheap water for everyone! :D

In Toledo, I think you're billed every 3 months and the average bill is like $60-$90.

Getting screwed on water depends upon where you live. Local governments have figured out that they can charge you anything they want for water because you don't have a choice. They can't raise property taxes due to state law and they can't shed their addiction to useless spending so it's simple.....they jack up fees on everything they have control over and water is one of them. It's a pathetic joke how useless governments have become.

Yeah, welcome to CA. Water, sewer, garbage runs about 150/mo for a 1/4 acre lot. fuck liberals.

That doesn't sound too bad. I pay about $100/mo for water, sewer, and garbage for 1/2 acre lot in GA. I figured CA would be lot higher.

Ha, I can beat that. My water bill is exactly $0 every month. I have 1.3 acres, full sprinkler system. I own a well.

Mine is around 60ish per month. What I hate is how they calculate it. It's based on the amount of rooms in the house, not people. I live alone and my house is considered to have 5 rooms. 3 bedrooms, and I guess bathroom and kitchen count too for that calculation. If I wanted to I could get a water meter, but once you go metered you can never go back, so for all I know the metered rate is set so high I would maybe pay more.

With tax and water I pay about 400 bucks per month to the city. Though some people have it way worse, so can't really complain.

The have a 2mile stretch down the street called Billionaire's Row here. That 2 mile stretch uses about 90,000,0000 (90 FUCKING MILLION) gallons of water per year.

This equates to what 100 average homes use in 10 years.

The number one user here owns a 2.6 acre place with 37,000 sq ft of dwelling on it, she uses 13.1 million gallons of water a year.

As long as they pay a fair price for it, who cares? dmcowen, is that you?

Ours is about $250 for water+sewer and we live in western Washington (I.e. Lots of rain). We are low to moderate users, as well. Go figure.

Our electricity is really cheap,though.

I'm in Michigan. A 180 foot well means water only costs the electricity to pump it, but our electric bill is $120 a month, and our propane bill is $1500 a year.

I couldn't imagine paying that much. My bill is ~$50 for water/sewage/trash collection/recycling. Two adults, two kids and three dogs. Don't water the yard though.

The thing with water is that it's renewable. When you flush the toilet it goes to the sewage plant, that gets filtered out then dumped back into the river, and then back to nature, some of it returns back as potable water. Rain and lawn water eventually makes its way into the storm drain which goes back to the river/lake too.

The main reason for bans/limits is sometimes the water tower is running low and the pumps/filtration plant can't keep up. They always want to ensure the tower is full in case the fire dept needs it and the pressure. At least that's the reasoning here. Summer also has the risk of forest fires, though they usually take water from nearby lakes for that using water bombers.

For fire hydrants it would almost make sense to have a separate system and separate tower, but I guess it would cost too much to maintain two systems even though one has less filtering.
