I'm calling shenanigans on the 2 acres. It's weird that the majority of ATOT often seems to not know how big an acre is. It's the size of an American football field, including all of one end zone, and down to the "80" yard line toward the other end. (90 yards in length). You may have 2 acres of property total, but then, subtract out for the house, driveway, etc.; and your lawn is certainly no where near 2 acres.

property maps are drawn including the land you own +/- easements, etc.

Saying you own 2 acres means how much land you own per the local plat map book. Saying you have a 2 acre yard...is sort of what you are thinking.

Isn't it easier to say a football field, minus the end zones? ;)

I've never heard anyone provide property size estimates other then the total of the land you own.

yeah should have clarified, 2 acres or 2 lots total, and half of one of the lots is forested, which is what they call them in the community.

there is no grass or dirt in texas. IF there is, it's not from texas and it was trucked in.

If you DO get grass to grow, it's on a extended death sentence.

Maybe far West Texas.

I haven't watered in six months and my lawn is growing so fast I've had to cut it every 5 days or so for the past few months.

nice, i want property like that.

it was really cheap land when my parents bought it years ago, it's 13 acres, and i think it was just under $90,000, about 10 years ago...

there's still some cheap land in the area, north of highway 82, there's some really really nice acreage for sale we've been looking at, for right around ~13k/acre

and ANYTHING around here is a great investment as the area is really blowing up property value wise in recent years, (I35/82 area) because of Chickasaw doing massive casino things just north of the border, they employ most of the people in the area. they have 7 casinos (big casinos) within 100 miles of the border (i have an IT/security consulting contract with them)

Getting screwed on water depends upon where you live. Local governments have figured out that they can charge you anything they want for water because you don't have a choice. They can't raise property taxes due to state law and they can't shed their addiction to useless spending so it's simple.....they jack up fees on everything they have control over and water is one of them. It's a pathetic joke how useless governments have become.

6 cars parked in the grass. You would get a ticket for parking in the grass in my city.

shit at my place if i let my grass grass get barely taller than a frikkin golf course i get a nasty letter, and in a couple days a "citation" rofl... it's only 10 bucks the first time, but totally anal retentive.... good thing i'm like hank hill...i love mowing my yard, it's just relaxing....

me and two of my neighbors have an unspoken war of the best upkempt yard going on too... guy across the street was out there mowing within 20 mins of me getting out there today mowing...

Dude, that grass looks brown/dying ...

Is your water bill quarterly or monthly? I have much less land, and I never water my grass because it rains here, but we usually wind up paying like $60 or so every 3 months ... Fiancee does water the garden and houseplants and some flowers and bushes and trees and such outside though ....

oops didnt see this before, it's monthly

lots of people have several acres out in the country here in texas and i would agree they would generally be referring to the total size of the lot.

i never really see anybody talk about having a multiple acre lawn, just lot size...it's probably too much of a pain to subtract the size of the driveway/house/etc.

Texas is probably a mostly water abundant state. Other states are in drought/water crisis mode. Other states likely have bureaucratic utilities that carry more overhead.

Water prices vary greatly throughout the US.

wat

Texas is in one of our worst droughts on record, which started 5 or 6 years ago. Lakes across the state have literally dried up.

You pay $300 for your phone/cable/internet and/or $100 for your water.

Which one would you rather live without? Which one is the highway robbery?

Doesn't look like it: http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/Home/RegionalDroughtMonitor.aspx?south

I don't know Texas's hydrogeological profile, but remember "drought" is relative. I would imagine that most of Texas is well supplied with water via rivers and aquifers, much more so than states like Arizona or California that are truly in water crisis's.

cable internet 30mbps is 60/mth, i dont pay for the cable tv service (it is highway robbery, 80 bucks for the lowest digital package)

the 4GLTE is i think 60/mth but it's only 5mbps i believe, it's 10 dollars per additional adaptor (usb adaptor, for your laptop) (otherwise it's modem/bridge) and then typical router>client setup after that...pretty cool that technology is available nowdays, cant wait until it's free in major cities, and all you have to is buy a 4GLTE adaptor and have free internetz

You realize that 89% of the state is "Abnormally Dry" and 69% is in some stage of drought based on those figures, right?

And this is after two of the rainiest months in years.

Seriously, where have you been for the past few years?

A lot of Texas is in crisis mode as far as water supplies. Hell, Austin's water supply (Lake Travis) was hovering close to 30% levels until a few weeks ago and is still below 40%. With the lake 40 feet low, most of the boat ramps hang out over sheer cliffs.

Don't get me wrong, I feel for California's current situation, but we've been dealing with as bad or worse for 6+ years.

I pay about $50/month for water and sewer, and that's with 8 people in the house. That includes occasionally watering the lawn. What's your point?
