I keep losing my DSL connection.

I have called tch support 3 times with no real help. I will be surfing and suddeny a page won't load. Try more websites and they won't load. I disconnect and reconnect, and I can surf again for a while. The real problem is online gaming. I keep getting disconnected from the server (has happened on several different servers). I might be able to play for a couple of hours with no problem, or maybe only a few minutes. It really seems random. The modem lights stay active thru this though.
What I have tried so far in order:
Complete virus/spyware scan with no problems found.
System restore to a date where I believe was prior to this starting.
Reinstall DSL software.
Uninstall if XP SP2 (tech support reccomendation).
Delete and reinstall DSL connection.

Any ideas? Could it be the modem going bad? I've thought about a reformat, but not sure if that would work. :|

Do you have a router providing a hardware firewall, or else a software firewall of some kind? You don't want your computer running naked on the Internet with no firewall on, especially not if you uninstalled Service Pack 2 :Q

If you do have a router, what exact brand, model, and revision is it? The revision will probably be on a label on the underside.

My web service (Cablevision) was sporadic until I finally got a tech to come out. Seems the coaxial connectors for my cable service weren't tightened enough. Did they check that?

I have no router and only the XP firewall. I fully understand the risks of having no firewall, but I've only used the XP one for 2 years now with zero problems.
And it's DSL, so on cable connections anywhere.

Since uninstalling SP2 didn't work, I'm going to re-install it.

It goes straight in.
Bellsouth is sending me a new, better modem free of charge (this one is 2 years old). I hope this works, but I'm not too sure.

Hopefully that will fix it. Be sure to swap the old network cable for the one thats coming with the modem. If that still doesn't fix it, lets take a look at the settings on your nic card in advanced properties. Your negotiation settings may not be exactly jiving with your modem.

Well I should have mentioned this before, but Norton did find a trojan (don't remember the name) about a week ago. I deleted it and have since rescanned with norton, spybot, and adaware with no problems noted. Could it be this somehow screwed up the settings?
