I keep getting friends request on Steam?

Has this been happening to anyone else? I keep getting friends request from people who have unassigned names and locked profiles. They keep sending me links to check out their inventory. It's unrelenting also.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'd like to know the answer too. Recently I received two friends requests from unknown people. The first one I simply accepted and I was soon bombarded with hello messages (I never replied back). I removed him/her from my friends list and I simply ignored the second request.

They may indeed be random people looking for chat/game partners but I cannot help being suspicious there is something else.

My guess would be they're attempting to do phishing attacks. They need to be able to IM you first so they of course do a friend request. I just block any request that I'm not expecting.

I usually find if they don't PM and request stuff, we have a game in common that is better enjoyed with steam "friends." The only way I can go on the European servers for NBA 2K15 is if someone I'm friends with in Europe is in the server presently. I have more Euro friends on Steam now than US players, and most I never played with but casually saw in "MyPark."

Never get that, do you have stuff listed on the steam market a lot? I'm guessing if you're a high volume trader of inventory items then may be targeted more than the average person for phishing attacks.

Typically this kind of thing happens when your profile is publicly listed somewhere so it can be copied down and then used, maybe try setting your profile private.

Protip: Change your Steam inventory visibility to private. For a while, I had a bunch of random people adding me as a friend because they apparently wanted my stuff, or they wanted to trade with me. I'm not interested in trading so I finally made it stop by hiding my inventory. No more random requests.

Been happening a lot to me the last week or so as well. I decline them because I never played with them, but figured it was some new phishing lure.

One of my friends took the bait,.. and sent me messages with a link saying he took some screenshots of our game. Thought it was funny, cause I hadn't played with him in over a year.
