I keep getting a "No Service" error with my new phone

I just bought a Motorola V190 and when I turn it on I get "No service" in different areas where I know there is service. I contacted Motorola and Cingular and they were no help. Does anyone know any potential fixes? Or should I just chalk this one up as a loss and try to sell it as is? Thanks.

One of the joys of cellular telephones. My phone never works. I've called US Cellular multiple times trying to get any kind of help out of them. Once I thought they were actually going to do something, but they never called me back. Good luck. Hopefully Cingular treats their customers better than US Cellular.

v190 is a quadband phone so it should wiork everywhere. Go in your connection settings (don't ask me how, I do not have a Moto phone on me, just play around the menus) and make sure your netwek connection preferences are set to "auto" mode. It should like your phone is "stuck" on either 850 or 1900 frequency and when it needs to "hop" the cell it won't switch bands. Hope this helps.

Cingular sucks large donkey balls that've been dipped in buffalo sweat. I switched to verizon and have never looked back... i'm not saying Verizon is the best, just that cingular is close to the worst.

They got cool phones though.

It was on automatic so I switched it to 850/1900 and it registered the Cingular network and it showed full bars but I couldn't make a call. Now it won't detect anything with any setting. I'm going to try to play around with the settings a little more.

I've tried changing all sorts of settings with no solution. I did get it to detect the Cingular network and attempt to register the phone with it. No it is in 'Emergency Only' but I can't make any calls. Does anyone else have any more suggestions? Could this be a hardware problem? Thanks.

Soounds like a hardware issue to me. My wife used v190 for couple of days and told me the reception was surprisingly very good. Have Cingular......err....at&t swap it for you

I decided today that I don't want to deal with sending it in for servicing so I sold it 'as is' on ebay and I got a buyer within a few hours for a little less than I paid for it. I'll just buy a new working phone.
