I delete it, it comes back. Every couple hours or so. I scanned for a virus but nothing showed up. What else could it be?

I'm probably wrong, but isn't an auto save thing? I think MS stuff saves a quick temp file while auto saving.

Nope, thats what I thought at first. I know Office and other apps make a quick temp file but this is appearing without anything open. And the Temp files are usually hidden aren't they? This ones not.

well is the file just a ~? or are there other characters behind it?
the office temp files start off w/ a ~ but rest of it show up as the file name taht you are working on. tmp or whatever extension. and it shows up on whichever directory the file currently working on is saved to.

now does it come up after you delete it while the windows is still running or only after reboot? if you delete it and it comes back up, could be some prog that loads up when the windows starts up. try looking at the properties and see what that says.

It is just the ~ , no extension or nothing. No properties, attributes or anything. It appears every few hours or so. I can have nothing running at all and it will appear when I'm away from the PC. Or I can be playing a game and it will be on the desktop when I quit. I guess its not hurting anything, its just annoying.

A user of mine has that as well. No clue what it is. Norton and TrendMicro don't show anything naughty on the PC.
