I keep dozing off while driving.

No matter how well rested I am I always start to doze off when I am on the highway? Loud music, a/c, windows open, drinking lots of water doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

How much sleep are you getting? Chronic sleep deprivation will make it difficult to stay awake during the day. Also, if you are getting plenty of sleep, you may be suffering from something like sleep apnea which will leave you feeling tired all day even if you get your 8 hours.

Oh, and where do you live? I'm going to make a note not to drive there until you get this sorted out. ;)

Red Bull is your friend. Though I love the stuff I'll only drink it if I'm know I'll be driving and tired.

Some people can't take long trips... drive for an hour and their eyes get tired. If you're one of em', just stop by the side and rest. Better safe than sorry... <--- fell asleep once while driving on the highway... luckily nothing happened... :p

Stuff like that will just be a band-aid in this case. There has to be some good reason he's passing out in the middle of the day.

I had that problem a few years ago (back when I could drive).

I stopped drinking all sugared and/or caffeinated drinks - Drank nothing but water for several months.

I had a MUCH easier time staying awake after that.

Dunno why I ever went back.

YES. It sounds like sleep apnea.

Rufio, what kind of treatment did they give you?

Some guy here in Pittsburgh 'passed out' while driving and killed a woman as well as the woman's pregnant daughter. The whole thing is coming down to whether the guy should have known better than to get the behind the wheel based on past experience. I think he passed out something 30 times in the past though. In any event, it wouldn't feel to good to be in shoes right now - needlessly killed three and is also facing jail time.

Don't drive until you are sure you will be awake.

hold a $20 bill in your hand and stick it out the window while you are driving. I guarantee you won't be falling asleep anymore.

Another way that might help is to cause your eyes to refocus occasionally by looking close then far. Help stop the hypnotic daze.

See a doctor man, it's no good falling asleep like that. I had a similar problem when I used to have to drive places at 5 in the morning. It REALLY freaked me out. Driving with the window opened helped and I ended up singing along to the music on the radio. It helped alot. But if this is happening all the time to you, then see a doctor.
