I was supposed to meet this woman today at 2-oclock, I spent an hour on the fvcking tube to get into central london, and (twist of fate) she'd gone to a damn award ceremony. Normally it's the interviewee that doesn't show, wtf is this?

Should I even go for this job? If I can't rely on them to be in the office when they say they will, can I rely on them to pay me?

It could be this woman is just an idiot. Not necessarily an indication of how the company is doing overall, unless she runs the company. Just call and reschedule. They better apologize when you talk to them.

Don't go for it.

When I moved into my current housing, I thought it was all nice and everything, but one or two things during the tour didn't seem to work properly, and I thought, that's okay. Fast-forward a month, and I'm living in a place with a negligent land-lady.

London, England? What city you live in? Would you know who I can report the land-lady to?

Try and use guilt to get her to reschedule to an evening or weekend because of your busy schedule, then don't show up.

I _do_ want the job, it's a java programming contract, and it sounds like easy money... but I'm not sure.

Yup. There's another london?

Housing association? Housing ombudsman service? I think they have to be registered with one of those agencies though. Otherwise it's lawyer time.

This happened to me before. I showed up for the interview and the guy wasn't there. I waited 30 minutes and left. When I got home the phone was ringing and it was him. He told me to come back.
I said thanks but I wouldn't work for anyone who treats people like that. He was kinda shocked. I wonder if he ever did that to someone again?

This puts you ata direct advantage, imho.

Not only will this little episode make you stand out from the rest of the applicants, but they kinda owe you ... that will increase your chances, too.

:)

Yup. There's another london?

I believe there is a London in Ontario, Canada

http://roadtripamerica.com/places/havasu.htm

In 1962, London Bridge was falling down. Built in 1831, the bridge couldn't handle the ever-increasing flow of traffic across the Thames River. The British government decided to put the bridge up for sale, and Robert McCulloch, Founder of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation, submitted the winning bid of $2,460,000.

If it is not an entry level job, definately re-schedule. You will have a great advantage over all of the other applicants.

Of course, if this is a entry level or low-paying/responsibility job that you are interviewing for, then just don't reschedule, or do and don't show up. :)

Complain to HR. Tell them that they need to pay you base wage for the time you spent getting there, etc....especially if they didn't call you. Tell them that you don't have money to chase false leads for companies that don't have the courtesy to call you. You live in England....they can spare the money.
